I have 2 female cats, both about two years old. My tortie is a slinky trouble maker that lets me know when she thinks it’s dinner time and can’t wait to chow down. My tabby is about 50% heavier despite never really being food motivated, and just sorta nibbles at her kibble. They get fed about 1/4 cup of kibble twice a day and as far as I can tell they split it evenly. My vet told me I need to start watching the Tabby’s weight since she is at 13lbs, but I don’t think I can cut down their food anymore. Anyone have any advice? The vet didn’t give me any useful info, just said watch her weight.

    • she looks good to me, though if she were mine i would probably give her an insensitive nickname like “Big Time” just due to size difference. i usually run my cats just into the heavy side of average, because it’s easier to notice if they get sick/lose appetite/weight and there’s a buffer. every cat i’ve ever had put on a little extra after getting fixed.

someone else suggested the kibble cat food that is formulated to be less calorie dense and i’ve used that before. most of mine have turned their nose up at new food and the low-cal formulation was no exception. but i’m more stubborn and decisive than any cat. they can play all the head games they want: i can work doorknobs.

She’s definitely not the fattest cat I know. But you can hear it any time she jumps off of something and she definitely feels 50% heavier than the other cat. The best is when they wrestle because the tabby will just football tackle the tortie and get her in a headlock. As she starts biting the tortie’s neck, the tortie starts bunny kicking the crap out of her face. I’m so blessed to have a couple lesbo kitties. They became best friends the week i brought the tortie home so I just became stuck with two cats.
