There was an airport that found by moving certain gates around to increase the time to walk to the baggage pickup area, complaints about waiting for luggage to show up dramatically decreased. It does take a few minutes to fully unload the belly of a plane into carts then drive over and unload the carts onto a belt. Even if the crew is fast.

If you’ve ever flown into an airport in a country like Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, etc, you suddenly realize just how fast and efficient baggage handling can be.

I don’t know if it’s still true, but I remember reading that Kansai airport in Osaka Japan has never lost a piece of luggage since it opened in 1994.

Same with the Las Vegas airport. They want you out and gambling as fast as possible.

Japan places high value on excellence. It’s basically taboo to do a piss poor job at anything people are depending on you for.

I hate that. Sometimes when I disembark after a long flight, I’m tired and uncomfortable and my bag might be heavy, and I don’t feel like walking up and down three flights of stairs, wandering through a labyrinth, boarding a shuttle and waiting to get off somewhere else, all before getting to my checked luggage.

Especially when I get there and it still hasn’t arrived yet because the luggage needs to take an extra shuttle too.
