Just started using gnome seriously for the first time, what are some extensions you can’t live without? Bonus points if you can help me get rid of the jumping with the on screen keyboard when the word predictions pop up.

With all these extensions I managed to create my perfect workflow.
You just need to not update to the new Fedora as soon as it’s out as some of these need maybe a month to keep update.
I’m using the surface-Linux kernel so I’m on 43 for a while it seems.
PaperWM; transforms Gnome into a linear window manager like niri.
I’ll have to give that a look.
TilingShell
I like wiggle. If you wiggle the mouse, it gets big. Old eyes.
I’m recently back on gnome and trying to keep it vanilla as possible, but I do like
Copyous for clipboard history Gsconnect for phone sync Quick close in overview to middle click on a window to close it (that’s just a muscle memory thing I developed imusing KDE) Hot edge instead of the tip left hot corner the bottom edge does the same thing
Sorry I don’t use the on screen keyboard but in terms of extensions, my only must have is the todo.txt one. Put’s a todo list in the bar at the top. It’s just saved to a file, so I sync it to my phone using Nextcloud so I can add things when I’m away but I use the todo list religiously.
You might also like Wobbly windows 😆
That todo.txt sounds freakin sweet.
I like it! It has lots of settings too, so I do things like sort by priority, colour by priority, I have it so the only button is to complete it, then another click to archive in case I accidentally do it. Archiving adds it to a done.txt file so I can go see what I’ve ticked off if I want. It’s a great tool once you get it set up with a workflow that suits you.
I use the ntodotxt app from F-Droid for editing on mobile, it syncs with Nextcloud too. I don’t love it, but it’s enough to add things from my phone when I’m thinking about them.
Mandatory extensions:
- “kstatus and identifications notifier” or something like that…
- Copyous
“kstatus and identifications notifier”
Are you referring to “AppIndicator and KStatusNotifierItem Support”? It came by default for me, but not sure if it’s there in vanilla Gnome. But yes, it’s also a must have to provide the support for legacy tray icons.
Yeah that one haha. Most distros bundle it by default because its a necessity, but yes, its not in “vanilla” Gnome, I don’t think any of them are or they wouldn’t be extensions.
