The law only says teachers must come from a native English-speaking country, the big 5: Canada, UK, USA, South Africa and Australia. Twenty yuan says this requirement isn’t from Chinese people, it’s for some school for children of racist diplomats. Beijing is just the worst.

Don’t try to translate, the western concepts of race don’t exist.
Min means people, or in some contexts nation while zu means group. “Asian” is a race in America that didn’t exist until the 1990s or so. I remember Anderson in Beavis & Butt-head calling the cops and when asked for a description he said, “I believe they were oriental.”

What I’ve read is that “Asian American” became a term in the 60s by student activists from countries in Asia trying to avoid being called other terms like Oriental. In 1990 May was designated as Asian American and Pacific Islander heritage month in the US, so the term had already been around for some time by then. And the concept of an “Oriental” race in Western racial theory had existed from the late 1800s at least under the terms “yellow” akin to the "white, “red”, and “black” races.

They were called Caucasoid, Negroid, removed and Australoid. American is a nationality, Asian is a region. The point is those terms only exist in English and are either untranslatable or were nonsense to begin with.

Those terms are not exclusive to English. They may not exist in Chinese but I can open my anatomy textbook and find one of those 4 terms right now if I want to.

        Good, thanks for explaining.
