For anybody lurking like I was, the execution ended up being botched, and a 1 year reprieve has been granted by the governor.
It is beyond shameful that the state tried to do this, but at least there is now time for his lawyer to push for the forensic testing more.
- Forensic evidence has never connected Mr. Carruthers to the crime, and his conviction relied almost entirely on the testimony of a jailhouse informant, who Mr. Carruthers’ counsel now knows was paid for his testimony.

Sadly the governor has just declared that he will not intervene only a day before the execution
So they are just gonna murder him with no decisive evidence?

The two aren’t mutually exclusive, and both should prevent the execution from moving forward.
(Leaving aside, of course, that the state being granted the right to execute people is horrific in the first place, and I’m already firmly against it)
