I’m very sad to report that after all this time, I have an update on GeekFTW.
I received this DM from his partner and learned that he unexpectedly passed away back in January.
Out of respect, I’ve omitted Geek’s first name and his partner’s username from the screenshot, as I always got the vibe that Geek was very protective of his online anonymity. If they(the partner) give the okay, I will reveal it. I’ve replaced the screenshot with the unredacted one.
I initially asked permission to post this but I didn’t feel right sitting on this news and not sharing it with all of you. I’ve been given permission.

Ah dude this fucking sucks. Geek was a great guy, he had no idea how postive an effect he had on my brain during some dark days.
The bonk hammer will be framed and hung up for his eternal memory.

Howdy folks. I’m GeekFTW’s partner. Sorry to have had to give you this terrible news and leave you wondering for so long. I’ve been going through his accounts slowly bit by bit, but damn is it hard. There really aren’t words for how much he meant to me. He was my best friend, my soulmate, my partner in crime. He was my everything.
He went out for groceries on a Sunday morning and never came home. To say it was sudden and completely unexpected would be the understatement of the century.
Thank you for putting his profile picture as a tribute and for being an awesome little community. Please give your loved ones an extra hug.

Thanks again for letting us know. I can imagine what you’re going through. I’ve been in the same situation with loved ones passing and going through their accounts was the hardest part.

I needed some time to process and I’ve been kinda fucked up all day. The unknown always sucks, but learning that it was the worst case scenario just makes me feel worse.

Such a gut punch, held out a lot of hope life just got in the way, I’ll pour one out for him. Hell of a lot of respect for everything he did to keep this community going, from the reddit exodus, to the Kbin 404 forced moving to Lemmy, tons of posts, just all around you don’t come across people online you totally appreciate all that often, and he certainly had my appreciation and respect. RIP.
That sucks. when someone goes quiet you always hope that life has just got a bit too busy.
This was the first community I joined in lemmy, and I always pointed out the way Geek keeps the community engaged.

That’s so sad, I hope he rests in peace.
That sucks, although the way he disappeared I’m not too surprised. There was still part of me that was hoping he said ‘fuck it,’ wandered into the woods, and was living his best mountain man life.
He’s sorely missed here, and I’m sure that can’t be compared to how much his family and irl friends miss him.
Damn. We’ll miss you, Geek; that’s for sure.
