The three top spenders — the United States, China and Russia — spent a combined total of $US1.48 trillion, just over half of global expenditure.

Unfortunately not a new development, mainly due to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and an increasingly assertive China which in recent years has been engaging in the largest peacetime military buildup in history, according to Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).
