    They shouldn’t in the way that they seem to have ended up. But realistically what happens if you need help in a violent situation or if you’ve had something taken?

      The same thing you would do in modern society, because the existence of cops does nothing directly for people who find themselves in those situations.

      You defend yourself or others against the violent perpetrator or attempt to escape the situation to avoid harm. In the case of stolen property, you get it replaced or, through the assistance of the local community, have it located and returned to you.

      Cops don’t protect people from harm. They show up after the fact to assign blame and write a report that will get tossed in a bin as soon as the ink dries.
