Last week i made a meta post that there were no Sunday comic strips. Turns out i was wholly incorrect. I started to think about it, the first strip ran on a Sunday.

I was looking for a strip from 1990 yesterday and realize the database i am using is missing huge swaths of strips in 1989-1991. So i broke out my physical books, and sure enough there are Sunday strips.

This happened to me and my sister in the late 80s. My uncle came to town, and rented a VCR. My sister and I were allowed to pick one movie together. I wanted Tron, i forget what she wanted. My mom picked a movie about a donkey, i thought it was Paco but I cannot find it.

Even if I had 10Kyrs in which to do so, a donkey movie over TRON is not something I ever could have guessed. oO

I remember the movie being called Paco. But the only movie by that name does not have a donkey on the front.

Iirc my sister and I refused to watch whatever movie it was in protest. I just texted her to see if she remembers the movie.

What about “High Rise Donkey” (1980) or the Disney movie “Gus?” If not, was it animated or live action?

It was live action for sure. My sister has no memory of the event at all so she was no help. Waiting to hear if my mom remembers it.

Update: my mom has no memory of this interaction at all either. Going to have to check out this Paco movie and see if it rings any bells.

I’m not the hugest movie buff, but I feel like I would have remembered a movie like that if it was reasonably mainstream. In which case my final thoughts on that are: 1) it might have been Spanish-language originally, with not much penetration in to English-language markets, 2) it might have been something other than a formal movie, like perhaps a kids’ special or series which similarly might not have made much mainstream flash.

I did ask GPT 5.4 for help, but it couldn’t pinpoint it without more info.
