    Within two weeks

    1. I found out my oldest niece liked Hannah Montana.

    2. Rockband released a Miley Cyrus track pack. I carefully listened to them and picked two I could tolerate, and bought them. ($2 each.) (See You Again and 7 Things.)

    3. I got my niece to sing the songs. Once each.

    4. She tells us Hannah Montana is for little girls and she likes Green Day and Rise Against now (two bands we have songs by and regularly play in Rockband). (Many years later we took her to see Green Day in concert. A couple years later, Rise Against.)

All that (except the concerts) when she was… 7? 8?

except for the hannah montana is for little girls part which, okay there’s a mature conversation to be had about not being the target audience so don’t treat something with disdain but like you said 7-8. and niece, not daughter. that sounds like a lot of the good parts of being an aunt/uncle/i haven’t decided what nonbinary folk should be called but i really like grumple.

we’ve been getting to know our godson better and he’s been telling us about this obscure metal band he’s been getting into, you probably haven’t heard of them they’re kind of old but maybe? Have you heard of Metallica? We bought him Monster of Muppets on vinyl and I’ve never seen him so happy.
