Something smells fishy with this. Steam provides a fuckload of value and the only ones that really stand to gain from this are the companies steam continues to out preform and out compete by providing services that others don’t.
The fact that there are similar lawsuit’s in the us and the negligible benefit to the consumer makes me suspicious of her motives.
They say that Valve over charges users. How can this be? I went to PC because consoles were too expensive. Games are almost always cheaper on Steam. I’m I missing something here?
Regional pricing? I checked some games on steamdb and polish prices were completely bonkers for example
It’s developer’s choice to set regional pricing on Steam, otherwise it defaults to exchange rates
There is a grain of truth in their motivated framing. Steam has a clause saying developers cannot sell at a cheaper price on other platforms, though if I remember correctly, that’s specifically the ‘normal’ as in ‘not based on a discount’ price. There is an argument to be made that this prevents competitive pricing on other platforms. (same kind of thing Amazon does to mess with the merchants on there) Most other parts of the steam system are pretty good though. If they settle and get Valve to remove that clause, it’d be great, but I fully expect Steam to remain the dominant force due to their other practices.
