A woman from the Isle of Man says she was escorted back on to the plane by Chinese border guards.

A woman from Douglas has described the “horrible” experience of being refused entry to China and immediately deported, despite believing she was covered by a new visa-exemption agreement.

    The Douglas resident said she did not need one as the Isle of Man was part of the British Isles, but she was pulled aside and told to wait.

    That’s not going to work. Ireland is also part of the British Isles, and I’m sure whatever agreement the UK signed with China doesn’t apply to people just because they’re citizens of the Republic of Ireland.

    You want to say “it’s a Crown Dependency”.

      If I was to make her argument, I’d say British Citizen. But apparently the agreement only applies to “normal” british passports and not to the other 523 variants. They reckon the reason they weren’t lenient is because some Hong Kongers are entitled to a British National Overseas passport, which the Chinese do not recognise
