It’s possible that Ukrainian side is under reporting, but it is attrition warfare, and I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if casualties really were roughly even. The key thing to keep in mind is that Russia has a far higher population than Ukraine, so 1:1 ratio is still a disaster for Ukraine in practice.
Thanks for explaining. Is it because it is urban warfare? What has Ukraine done well to get that ratio? It’s a bit of an ask but would you know an article /resource that goes into it that is not from a transatlantic bias ie supportive of Russia in the is war but has good critique on their warfare?
Defenders advantage mostly. Its balanced by the fact Russia can strike pretty much anywhere in Ukraine and kill troops in there beds 200 miles away from the front while Ukraine cant do that.
I haven’t really seen a lot of good analysis from articles, but I’ve found this channel has been fairly decent at explaining the tactics and strategy from both sides. And while his style is flippant, he does seem to have good analysis. https://www.youtube.com/@historylegends/videos
Would you know why it is almost 1:1? Is there massive under-reporting on the Ukrainian side? Did Russia make mistakes that account for this?
