      Because they wanted to use a protocol created by a monolithic tech giant that was explicitly designed to feature algorithmic feeds and interaction monitoring (read: monetization).

      The article states they wanted to ensure full account portability, which is a feature unique to AT protocol.

    Facebook was actually (IMO) quite good when it came out, you could keep up with friends and family far away and more. I’d love a non-profit, european thing like that, but few people would use it I guess.
