I was holding out all this time for the remake to hit PC, but after news of Bluepoint’s demise and Sony scaling back their PC ports, I threw in the towel and started emulating it instead via RPCS3.
I’m awash with nostalgia. This game holds up really well, especially with the 60fps patch and upscaling!
Thats lit. Got this game way back with the JP release, blew my mind.
I got it when it hit europe, I think 1 year later. Also blew my mind. It’s fun to think back of the time when nobody knew what Dark Souls was, and this game had a lot of haters for being so difficult and having no easy mode.
It’s such a nice game. Shocking how well it holds up. Honestly I think it looks better than dark souls 1 graphically. More solid more put together more real.
That’s awesome, enjoy the nostalgia!
Yeah it’s still my favourite in many ways. I prefer the world and design compared to Dark Souls and the atmosphere and soundtrack.
Would love to try out the remaster one day too.
I replayed it on RPCS3 on the Steam Deck a few months back, not 60fps but really nice to play it that way.
Oh yeah, this feels correct! I recently finished the remake and while I enjoyed playing it, most of the time I didn’t like the art drection they went with. It’s is not like, comepletely awful but felt very… yassified ?
Sometimes over designed in a Marvel way, sound design edges in Michael Bay-esque a few times. And like that ,a lot of little stuff that chips away at the atmosphere.
Enjoy your playthrough!

Yeah, I saw the remake online as soon as it landed. Bluepoint took a lot of liberties with the feel and design of the game, it feels a lot more “generic western fantasy” than the original. Some enemy designs were watered down, the vibe of some areas changed, and as you say it’s not terrible but they definitely didn’t put much care into it.
Still can’t get over that they made the nexus dark green and orange. This was supposed to be a peaceful magical place, and someone there decided to make it look evil. Bleh…
Still, I wanted to play it, but oh well. The PS3 version is still great!
Ngl, I like the way the Nexus looks quite a lot. And comparing it to this one screenshot of yours, it looks a lot more serene and magical and royal in a way. But maybe I’m misremembering things.
The music that plays there tho. Hooly. Not sure if it’s been remade as well, but it’s definitely up there for me for favourite themes in soulslikes.
