To me simple living means decluttering and frugality. It is synonymous with contenment. It means having less, not in a minimaliste sense of having empty space, but having carefully and purposefully chosen items that are fewer and suits our life better…
Which means simple living is also deeply linked to anticonsumption, at the antipodes of a life style where we always want more of things we don’t really understand and where we don’t really enjoy what we have.

Anticonsumption is at the top. The problem with decluttering is it is easier if you are doing well. Its harder to get rid of things if you do not think you can buy them again in future if you need them.

I use to think this way but after learning about decluttering method, I realised there was two different things :

      • decluttering as “throwing away stuff I don’t care enough for, while keeping buying and acquering stuff I don’t care enough about”
      • decluttering as “evaluating what I truly need in my life and accepting that things that are getting dust and rust in my house are not less wasted as if I get them out, while changing the way I consume so that the waste of our society doesn’t creep in my house anymore”.

So many people are saying decluttering and mean throw away but learning about decluttering made me change the way things enter my house much more that it help me get it of other. But the mind set of “it is wasted even if if is inside your wall” was a big realisation to me.
