my favorite is the scene of paratroopers dropping in front of a school and just immediately starting to randomly shoot civilians and cars and blow up buses with RPGs?
and literally like a minute later they’re now trying to hail a car to stop instead of shooting it, and rounding up civilians to put them in internment camps, so I guess they had gotten the indiscriminate slaughter out of their system by that point

The remake is worse
Not sure how, but it is
Yeah I watched the OG Red Dawn earlier this year in its entirety, and it’s not good, but it is one of the (sic) movies of all time and the writers believed in whatever they thought they were doing. I made it about 1/3 of the way through the new one and it felt like there was nothing going on.
Hat tip to the scene in the original where the downed fighter pilot is hitting on the high school girl, and also one of the high school boys is sitting out while they’re throwing a football around and his pal comes up like, “hey join us!, don’t be a f-slur.”
I remember reading that up until very late in the production of the remake, the invading army was supposed to be Chinese. At nearly the last minute though, the studio realized “oh we’d like to be able to keep releasing films in the Chinese market” and had them switch it to North Korea. Which both speaks to how much the film must’ve gotten fucked up by such a late charge, but also how bad the original concept of the film was if they could make that drastic a change so late and still have a film.
Yeah I’d also absorbed that bit of lore but hadn’t heard it was a late change, that certainly implies how little it matters to the plot what country is invading. The OG had Nicaraguans as a cat’s paw for the big bad Soviets which is like, same hemisphere at least.
