It was the other way around, they lashed out at me, and well beyond you did bad and should feel bad, would have been right about that. I get to lash out at people who tell me to kill myself when I very nearly did, and I don’t make any apologies.
I don’t have to justify myself to you. I’m deeply ashamed of the fact I joined the military because I thought it was an ordinary job, and I resigned the second I realized it wasn’t. But I don’t have to listen to tell me to kill myself without reacting to it like a human.
I think eternal torture in hellfire is a bit much applied to me personally yeah. You would react similarly I think, even if yeah they’re probably right that I should put a gun in my mouth. I got over that urge years ago thankfully
“Burn in hell” is a very brief and off-the-cuff sentiment. “I hope all X burn in hell” is not a personal attack until you insert yourself into it by actively claiming X as an important/relevant part of yourself, and adding details to a 3-syllable dismissal.
It’s a stranger on the internet, a 1-month old account saying this. There’s no reason to get worked up about it.
Wouldn’t an ex-evangelical have a firm belief that hell ain’t real, and have more of an aversion to the religious aspect than the personal aspect?
It’s funny how they prepare you for all kinds of physical challenges in basic, but they don’t teach a simple life skill like shrugging off a modest verbal offense from a stranger.
Gonna be real with you comrade, telling american soldiers to burn in hell here is common place, and will not change. I really don’t think it should either. That said, it is good that you have seen your failures of the past and have moved to the winning side. But this comrade did not lash out at you in particular. It was a general statement, one that is generally accurate, and you took it personally. Your comments have been reported for being imperialist, and while I’m not going to delete them, I think you should. This comrade and others who have been wronged do not owe you forgiveness, or even kindness.
You’ve grown and changed over the years, excellent. But none of us can expect them to forgive you or play nice about it.
I don’t expect forgiveness and I know I don’t deserve it but I don’t like being told I belong in an eternal torture chamber or I should put a gun in my mouth
hey man, nobody likes it, but you also weren’t being told that. It was being said in general. You were not singled out in any way until you placed yourself into the conversation. To be honest, this conversation isn’t about you. Its bigger than you.
That’s not to say you have no place here, or in the revolution. You absolutely do. But some impolite feelings from comrades that have been materially damaged by your actions and america’s as a whole are gonna happen.
He said all veterans should burn in hell regardless of the circumstances. I don’t expect to be forgiven and accepted especially by the people I hurt but I think repentant vets deserve a chance and don’t deserve eternal torture

If it helps with context I’m an ex evangelical and hell is a really sensitive subject with me

I know I deserve to burn in hell, just had an emotional reaction to being told to stick a beretta in my mouth, that’s all this was

I get that but it doesn’t have to rise to the level of recreational sadism. You could just say I deserve a bullet in the head
i think arguing the intricacies of the difference between death and hell is largely meaningless here, man.
Did any of this comment refer to you in particular?
Yeah I’m a former navy officer, and I didn’t realize the evil I was involved with till Obama bombed there hospitals in one month
No as in did the comment call you out specifically? As in “I hate u/fannin he should burn in hell etc.”

Do you know why he said that?
