For this Friday Movie Night, first up is The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant (1972), a German lesbian romance from one of Germany’s most renowned filmmakers, Rainer Fassbinder. Somehow, we have not watched any of his work until now. It follows a rich, middle-aged, self-absorbed fashion designer (the eponymous Petra von Kant) who becomes infatuated with a much younger would-be model. Drama ensues as their relationship escalates and puts a strain on Petra’s career. Somehow, we have never watched any Fassbinder films until now; this is considered one of his best, so let’s check it out.
After that is How to Train Your Dragon (2025), the new live-action remake of Dreamwork’s 2010 animated feature about a Viking boy from a clan that seeks to exterminate all dragons. Uh-oh, he befriends a baby dragon himself, and has to keep his new interspecies friendship a secret from his disapproving father. Reviews for this assure me that it is better than the live-action Disney remakes. Director is Dean DeBlois, who also helmed the original version, as well as the original Lilo & Stitch (2002). Okay, reviewers, we’ll give this one a chance. A good-quality camrip just appeared, so we will be watching that.
We’ll start at 8PM EST on Blorptube, right here:
