Denver City Council will consider an ordinance that would make new rules for shared scooters and e-bikes from Lime and Bird, including anti-sidewalk technology and parking requirements.
Ideally space would be provided for all. Something I think we can agree on is that no pedestrian, cyclist, scooter rider, etc. is going to fare well against a lifted pickup at 40mph and the biggest divide is between cars and vulnerable road users. I’ve biked in downtown Denver. There is some good infrastructure, but there’s also a lot of sketchiness, especially the further out you go. Until the road feels safe, people will use the sidewalk.
Exactly! And i’m glad the story has this stated clearly:
“The reason scooters are riding on the sidewalks is because they don’t feel safe on the streets.”
