      It’s supposed to be a check on the judicial system.

      This is a perfect use of it:

      In October 2022, Biden issued a full pardon for those who had been convicted of simple possession of marijuana, and later expanded that to include other marijuana-related offenses.

      The American Revolution was a bourgeois one which didn’t benefit the yeoman farmer. This working class one sparked up immediately when the federal government was still very weak and trying to tax a subsistence commodity. The leaders were pardoned to prevent a larger rebellion from breaking out over their execution. Prior to that the pardon power was supposed to be an act of congress.
