how undemocratic our nations have become

Governments don’t do direct democracy, so they’ve never been democratic.

⅞ of progpol doesn’t even know the differences.

Some governments do do direct democracy, switzerland has referendums written into their system, as do many US states, over 30 of them, most of which can be citizen initiatives, getting a percent of signatures of registered voters to get an issue on the ballot for a vote, most of which makes constitutional amendments that can’t be easily changed by lawmakers, (although they still do ratfuck them before and after the votes.)

It is how we legalized weed.

I don’t know the entire list, but there is some direct democracy out there.

Direct democracy in total just doesn’t work in larger countries though. It always leads to autocracy. Not that the system we have now doesn’t either, our countries got ratfucked by monied interests over half a century back and all major parties are captured by the oligarchy, and or manipulated into putting forth weak candidates that can’t win, looking at you France Unbowed, (coolest name for a political party notwithstanding.)

Democratic-ness is not a binary variable (is vs is not). A society can be more democratic or less democratic. And it can become more democratic or less democratic.
