Any other knitters make your own cable needles? I was using one that was just a touch oversized for these 00 sizes needles. I rifled through my electricians box and found some 14 gauge copper wire and shaped and sanded it to create a cable needle that I could use differently from each direction depending on the need.
I’m probably going to flip the direction of the dip on the shorter side but it’s already working better than the one I was using.
I’ve put tubing on dp needles but there is just so many options out there nowadays that I’ve been opting more to buy
I find that with the way I knit, most cable needles get in the way. For smaller cables (up to about 5x5, depending on yarn weight), I use one of the thicker plastic locking stitch markers, and I prefer the big safety-pin-style stitch holders for anything larger.
I’m a tight knitter on socks and with the tiny loops and tight knit I always like to lock in the cabled stitches because if one gets away it’s going to take a while to fix. But on larger knits I might not even use a cable needle and just do a lot of tossing from one knitting needle to the other and let stitches float on the process. But that requires a looser knit.
