I think there are ways to state a regret for the loss of human life (couched within a more complex framework that could include concepts like social murder, economic violence, or… you know… the violence of occupation, ethnic cleansing, starvation…)

Even accepting that, which I feel is getting a little bit too close to a “both sides” attitude that doesn’t inform people about the history and nature of the conflict… one of my most liberal friends now sees Palestinian armed resistance as a just and moral cause. I feel like the world is ready to understand Al-Aqsa Flood as a desperate but strictly defensive attack carried out not by “terrorists” but by a broad collection of people put in an impossible situation.

And yet, there are so many people coming out of the woodwork ready to ‘snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.’ Why this moment, of all moments? DSA has become so indistinguishable from the Democratic Party in their prioritization of imperialism and Zionism, even comparing to the most politically savvy and best curated moments of the Obama presidency. Genuinely can’t tell if it’s all cynicism, or if it’s just opportunists joining a poorly moderated but ascendant platform.

edit: It feels too obvious to state… “DSA is a reactionary organization,” for sure, I understand that, but my inner lib needs nuance and maybe even some compromise!!! Oh yeah!!!
