I can make this one switch easier than the traditional ballerina version.
*Looking at it more, I can see both directions at the same time. That’s trippy.
Yeah the ballerina one seems more stable and harder to switch back and forth.
I really have to try hard to see it going clockwise. I suspect it’s rendered with perspective projection (as opposed to orthographic) so there really is only one correct way to perceive it.
It spins counterclockwise if you interpret the image as looking at the sphere at an angle above the equator (you see the north pole spinning). If you instead force yourself to look at it as if you were below the equator (watching the south pole spin), then it moves clockwise.
Tilting or rotating your phone is the easiest way to make it change direction.
The first handful of times I watched this, it seemed like it shifted to counterclockwise at the same point in the second half before going back to clockwise at another consistent point.
Then, every couple times, it would almost seem to break that pattern
Wasn’t until I saw it spinning counterclockwise at the start that I realized this is indeed an optical illusion instead something intended to mess with people (as a joke / deception)
