VLC works well on mobile, but the UI is not great for that.
Can it be configured to work well on mobile, such as with mobile-config-firefox and mobile-config-thunderbird?
I like having the Chromecast compatibility for example. I’ve watched a video streamed from my Mobian phone to a Chromecast (from a Samba share) including conversion to another format and it just worked.
Now I’d like to have improved UI, as I’m not aware of other apps that implement the API for casting to a Chromecast.
The app exists on Android phones, so the capability has to be somewhere.
I haven’t used it recently, but I used to use it on both Linux desktop and android, and the ui was so different, it seemed like it was an entirely different app.
@blackbrook @bjoern_tantau VLC > Tools > Customise interface lets me make it look like this - which is very usable. Using the flatpak version on #Librem5 running PureOS Crimson. Also tested previously on postmarketOS on another L5.

Vlc android is amazing. I think it can be used somehow.
I believe the android client is a wholly separate build that makes use of libvlc. So its more of an android/kotlin UI that hits libvlc than just a UI over the regular build. The entire UI would need to be remade.
I just wish VLC Android were better at handling folders with large numbers of files. Just give me the ability to turn off media thumbnails already!!!
Until then, I’m stuck with MPV
