TIL there’s actually a difference between coffin and casket. Coffins are tapered to the body (6 or 8 sides), usually with a separate lid, typically far cheaper. A casket is a rectangle with a hinged lid, typically with rails attached for carrying and usually far more ornate & expensive.
So “casket” is the magic word for a massive discount?

Seriously! Cremation is cheaper but why not just dump me in a big black bag? I’ll basically be cremated anyway for far cheaper.
Why would coffins be far cheaper? Isn’t that a significantly more complex shape, adding overall labor? Do a few hinges really add that much more work/materials? I don’t see why shape would determine how ornate it ends up being, either
The effort and build quality are usually different levels
Yeah the rectangle is easier but then the hinges, oh my
Just burn my body and call it a day.
Such a waste of delicious carbon for the worms.
Why exacerbate the climate catastrophe when you could provide nutrients to soil and plants?
Same, but after med students get done practicing on me.
Everyone in my family does this. They send you the ashes when they’re done. I’m not sure of the price, but it’s trivial. Shipping and handling mostly.
Burn me and plant me.
Coffin Flops lied to me!!!
These are all clearly caskets! More like Casket Flops, a lamer name! LAAAAME!
I’m fucking cancelling Corncob TV right the fuck now.
In the US the entire funeral industry is just predatory horseshit.
