Whenever I feel the urge to be mean to someone on the internet I just block them instead. They don’t need someone saying mean things to them and I don’t need to go through the cycle of anger/guilt that I will feel. I don’t think blocking is a mean thing. I think of it as choosing to avoid conflict.

I’m not perfect and am sometimes still mean, but just something that can be considered.

That’s a really kind philosophy. I usually just try and scroll on, but I might adopt your way. That seems to be kind to yourself, as well, because you aren’t seeing the people who cause anger again. Clever, I like it!

Yeah! I wanted to share so that people don’t feel bad about blocking. It doesn’t mean the person you are blocking is bad or not worth hearing. I block communities that are too depressing as well.

Some people on lemmy might say you are silencing people but I don’t invite annoying strangers into my home so I’m not stressed about it.

I agree with this and I do it too.

I think it’s perfectly fine to “silence” people from me. It’s not like I’m cutting them off from anyone else.
