A few hours ago, US officials said they will impose 25% tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminium (which has been imposed already before Trump), rather than the 50% Trump announced earlier. The reversal came after the Canadian province of Ontario said it would temporarily suspend its new plan to charge a 25% tariff on electricity it sends to northern US states (which Ontario had announced earlier in response to Trump’s increased tariffs).
Ontario also said they will negotiate with the US how to proceed with this.
Let’s see what happens tomorrow here. The only thing that we can take for granted is that the US isn’t a reliable partner anymore.
