Intro to "Nunavut" by The Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie
For eons did the men and women, seals and beavers of Nunavut suffer and toil for their overlords.Long did they labor under the oppressive white yoke of the evil Canadian government.Until, one day, a rag-tag, displaced group of frustrated Inuit got together and formed a specially-trained, elite council. And this council wrote a letter. And that letter led to a meeting. And that meeting led to some other meetings,And, meeting after meeting, for years, did they meet. Each meeting leading to another meeting until ONE DAY...There was a meeting,Which led to a vote,Which led to some more meetings,Which spawned some paperwork,Which led to another couple of meetings,And from THAT MEETING was forged the Arctic Council. And they had a meeting. And from that meeting was born a document,Which, in turn, led to another vote,And some more meetings,Which led to...The birth of a territory.
(EDIT: Context is that The Thread Dead Trolls in a Baggie was a Canadian comedy group from the 1980s-90s. And caveat: yeah, I think they were also pretty white. But they still had pretty good punching-up and generally leftist comedy. The quintessential line from the song itself is actually "We'll keep Canada; you can have Nunavut.")
Can't wait for donkey-brained liberals to retreat from "LITERALLY THE LAST ELECTION WE'LL EVER HAVE!" to, "Well, the last FAIR election we'll ever have." (Without, of course, bothering to think critically about whether any of the elections we've had has actually been fair....)
TBH, I kinda have to wonder if she was laid off because she wasn't in the cozy Kyiv administrative building waiting for Ukraine to tell her what she should report, like all the others.
The passage of the spending bill in the House on Tuesday was a carefully calibrated maneuver between the Democratic and Republican leaderships. The bill passed the House by a narrow 217–214 margin. Twenty-one Republicans—primarily from the fascistic House Freedom Caucus—voted against the bill. The Democrats responded by supplying the exact number of votes needed to offset Republican defections.
These votes demonstrate that the Democratic Party functions not as an opposition but as an enabler of the Trump administration.
Even WSWS said "enabler" when it should be "partner".
Seriously. Can we please just "wouldn't surprise me if true given the monsters involved, but won't believe it unless there's credible evidence" and move on? Really, really basic application of skepticism, here.
But I adhere to the position that skepticism was effectively murdered decades ago by the propaganda and educational neglect, so....
I remember when Donna Brazile blamed her own leaking of primary debate questions to Hillary's campaign on "RUSSIAN HACKERS!!!" in 2016. Seems like it's always been extremely transparent. Then they try to catch up after the fact with the justifying propaganda...and still mostly fail, at least with anyone who has been paying the slightest bit of attention and has a skeptical bone in their body.
But I guess that's the problem: they murdered skepticism a while ago, and I'm not sure if it's really growing back yet.
They are, though. They literally invite anyone and everyone in off the street.
And even if they weren't, we should be supporting each other in this kind of action no matter how the state would initially like to interpret things. Precints may burn to the ground, and churches may not be able to finish their HoLy MiSSioN. We've got fascism to annihilate. All of that can wait. Especially where components of them are complicit in the fascism.
Churches better start putting "believers only" on their door or something, I guess.
For that matter, what if the guy just happened to let slip that he's an ICE agent during his sermon, or someone in the service was bored and on their phone and happened across the info, and it wound up being the people who were legitimately there initially to participate in it who started jeering and "disrupting"?
Nah, literally fuck all of that hogwash excuse for this repression, TBH. Disrupt a health clinic too, if there's a literal fascist pretending to be a doctor there.
Also, this bit:
It's long accepted that if an ordinary person receives classified information and then spreads it around that they have committed a crime. But if a journalist receives that same info and publishes it there's this idea of professional discretion by a trained professional
is extremely weird given that even the liberal courts have ruled that there's not really such a thing as a "professional journalist" and that people on the street acting as journalists are, in effect, "real journalists". But even if you're right and there's some legalistic exception that's made for them, I call fucking bullshit: the state has no place whatsoever to decide who is and isn't legitimately a journalist.
