  • Yeah, you're right.

But I'm a little optimistic. The image being widely used for decades is a symptom, not the cause of women being unwelcome.

With it being finally banned, it seems like this is changing. Hopefully this means the root cause, misogyny in tech, is at an all time low.

  • Depends on the language, though they'll probably pronounce it in a way disregarding every language with ö's rules.

  • Not the Donaudampfschiffahrtsgesellschaft though, as it's referring to a company which was established prior to 1996.

  • Yeah, and Russia clearly committed 9/11 while putting Iraq's WMDs inside the planes to make the following US invasion look ridiculous.

  • *in Canada (and perhaps parts of the US? not sure)

  • I mean, you're not wrong, though even the US has rather lax copyright compared to some other countries.

  • Ever seen a Mercedes A class? I don't think anyone pretending to be rich drove those, at least the older models from the early 2000s.

  • Violating the spirit of the law is still violating the law, at least in Germany; the EU may have similar rules.

  • No it hasn't.

The concentration camps in the east, like Auschwitz, were almost exclusively extermination camps meant to wipe out whoever entered on an industrial scale. Gaza is not an extermination camp.

The "normal" concentration camps weren't significantly better. Around 10% - 50% of inmates died, depending on the camp - be it from starvation, illness, medical experimentation or just live target practice.

Is every single Gazan enslaved and forced to build Israeli weapons and does Israel prevent Gazans from leaving under threat of collective punishment?

Gaza is the dictionary definition of a ghetto, not a concentration camp.

  • Feminist Appropriating Radical Transphobe

  • To be honest, other programming languages aren't named any better

Pascal is just a common name, Rust is a common noun, Java is an island which you cannot find by searching for just its name, Python's a snake, C# is a musical note and C is just a letter.

  • Clearly like your average Facebook comment section under some inflammatory post. That's how real men™ sound like.

  • Absolutely. This just means less resources are required, not no resources at all.

Would you argue for stopping funding for reasearching and combatting rare diseases affecting only a small population? If you were to base funding solely on utilitarianism, you would.

  • What I am saying is:

The meaning of words is defined by how they're used. Antisemitic has never been used to refer to anything but hating Jews akin to how the n-word has been used as an insult instead of a neutral descriptor.

You cannot use the n-word as a neutral descriptor, nor can you use the term antisemitism to describe hatred of non-Jewish ethnicities.

  • ???

You know, you're right. It doesn't matter how words are used, only the etymology matters.

That's why it's ok to refer to black people as negros. After all, "negro" is the Spanish word for "black", so "negros" just means "blacks". And the n-word is just an English version of negro after all.

  • Yes, but the term antisemetic was coined by - well - antisemetic Germans who wanted a more scientifc term for "Jew hate" explicitly.

It doesn't matter that Arabs are semetic, the history of the term solely refers to hating Jews.

  • Because parties which gain a certain percentage of the vote (I think 0.5 - 1%, depending on the state) receive money to reduce their dependency on private sponsors.

  • There are three target groups of migrants, he explains, who should be extradited from the country – or, as he puts it, “foreigners” who should undergo “reversed settlement”. They are: asylum seekers, non-Germans with residency rights, and “non-assimilated” German citizens. It is the latter that, in his view, would pose the biggest “challenge”.

Silke Schröder, a property developer and board member of the right-leaning Verein Deutsche Sprache (German Language Association), wonders how re-migration would work in practice. Surely if a person has the “appropriate” passport it would be ” impossible”, wouldn’t it? For Sellner, this is just a detail. A “high level of pressure” will be exerted on people to adapt, he says, via “customised laws”. Re-migration won’t happen overnight; it is “a project that will take decades”.

The masterplan even includes a destination to “move people to”, a so-called “model state” in North Africa, that would apparently provide space for up to two million people. There would even be educational and sport offers there. And anyone who lobbies on behalf of refugees could join them there, Sellner added.

According to Sellner, the problem is “not just that foreigners live here. They also vote here.” “Ethnic voting” means that immigrants are likely to vote for “immigration-friendly” parties.
