  • I really like the simsonn plus x pedals I picked up. The brake pedal has way better feel and modulation, and they're adjustable about a billion ways to Sunday. I haven't adjusted anything yet because I'm working on a frame to invert them out of 2020 extrusion.

    The r5 should work perfectly out of the box, and install boxflat to do any tweaking you may need. Hopefully you take the plunge and things work well for you.

  • Just got into sim racing as a longtime Linux user. iRacing doesn't work because they're lazy about enabling anticheat, but ac, beamng, and others work great. What hardware do you have in your rig? FFB "just worked" with my pxn vd6, and I had to write up some udev rules to get my simsonn load cell pedals running, but it's been smooth so far. There is a matrix chat you can join from simracingonlinux dot com that has excellent information and folks to help.

  • I hate to border on sounding like a shill, but I have had really good luck with fiio devices. I bought 2 different Bluetooth headphone amps and an mp3 player. All of them have hit above their price point and the things I dislike about them are small details (specifically, I want a better eq on the mp3 player and one of the headphone amps was glass sided with predictable results).

  • Was away for a few days and just saw this reply. Yeah, brake fluid is super corrosive, especially on glass. The DOT rating (3, 4, 5, etc.) doesn't play a role in how corrosive it is, it's more about the different additives and composition of the specific fluid and what it's service life is. The more you know...

  • Brake fluid would etch the glass of the lenses. Cleaning the surface wouldn't return the camera to service. Better than paint would be any other substance to thin out the brake fluid for application, particularly if it were less noticeable than paint. That would cause the repair order to come in from lost data collection rather than a report of vandalism, denying them creeping time and that sweet, sweet data. Definitely don't do that.

  • One correction to your recipe: the correct amount of beer is one full (bottle||can) plus one drop from a second. Then drink the rest.

    Also, if you have the time, cut steak into 3/4" cubes and sear all six sides. Place in a plastic bag and cover with tequila. Place in the fridge for 24 hours or so and the alcohol will denature the proteins, giving an amazing texture.

  • I literally installed mom and dad's Mac mini yesterday. They need to be able to run commercial software. Moving to Mac was foreign enough for them, I don't think people in their 90's would do well with Linux. I will, however, work on getting my sister onto Linux. We will see.
