  • Thanks for the response. I guess I'm more familiar with Korea and Japan. Japan being the worst the this regard. Definitely know the "dark skin" racism being strong in both Korea and Japan. But Japan takes it a step further and basically just only accept Japanese and others will always be outcasts.

I don't know. I guess it's depressing. I moved from the southern US to the west coast and just felt like it was a great place with a lot of diversity that my kid could grow up.

I just don't want my kid to be looked at as "well, you're obviously different" when going to school. Here, it's not an issue at all. She'd be among many others.

It's really not something you get at this degree in anywhere else in the world. And, well, I guess it's the reason we are seeing this type of white supremacy and racism take power. It's a reactionary action.

  • I need to read this in detail when I have time. It feels like the majority of this is going to be based on the way the US treated Ukraine and the Tariffs. Both of which were bad. But, I feel like Europe is hating the US for the reasons that are very self interested.

Like, idk, the genocide in Gaza, the rising white supremacy and fascism. Starting WW3 with its aggression towards it's neighbors.

Am I wrong? Someone from Germany give me some vibes. I feel like Europe is following the same nationalism that will just follow the US in the way it treats its neighbors and it's citizens.

It feels like that Europe is hating the US actions but their solution is to be MORE like the US in response: nationalism and anti immigration.

  • Korea and Japan are suffering from a lack of immigration. Immigrants are literally just an injection of younger working age people. I won't try to explain the racism and nationalism between east Asian countries. But, I feel like the way the world is going, worrying about 2030 projections based on the world not being a complete fuck fest by then. Well, I think we more pressing concerns. Like, the US actively starting WW3.

  • Uh, his face is on the passes? I had a national parks pass in 2019. Pretty sure it was just an animal (Buffalo?) that hung from my rear view mirror. Is this really a thing?

  • How is the culture towards foreigners? Especially obviously multi racial kids growing up?

You may have no idea. But figured I'd ask.

  • Everyone suggests proton and their whole infra just makes me sus. Just because of how much they are the "go to" alternative.

Maybe I'm paranoid. But I feel like these companies that focus on "privacy" are just not as good as we all assume.

It's like all the YouTube sponsored segments of "Ingogni". It just makes me feel like these companies that sell "privacy" are just consolidating data on the people that are worried about their privacy.

This is less a comment about proton I guess. But, incogni, is sus as fuck. Like, really, "give us all your personal info and we'll "scrub" it from the internet, trust us."

Are they sharing your emails. Probably not. But I just don't really trust anything.

Edit: lots of strong responses. Which I appreciate. But, my comment was more "vibes" based on Proton. But I'll take a stand on these "Ingogni" types services. I think they are sus as fuck.

  • Unfortunately, you can't have a bidding war when the highest bidder has no intention of paying.

  • So if someone wanted to GTFO and avoid living in the Nazi state but also not be invaded by the US or be in one of its Allie countries that will follow the same path inevitably. Where would you go?

China, would probably be the least likely to get fucked unless the US goes full nuclear (and really nowhere is safe). But I don't think that's so easy.

    Vietnam, maybe?

I can't see Europe doing well as NATO is dismantled.

Like, our world is literally getting fucked. If it was just me. I'd stay in the US and accept my fate and resist. But, I got a two year old kid that is only 50% of the race that our fascist leaders approve of.

History will write of the Gaza genocide is the catalyst and testing ground for the start of WW3. But we are here now. And I just want my kid to see 30.

  • I think the fact that the US invaded Venezuela and kidnapped its leader disproves your last statement. Conditions in Venezuela have actually been improving because of their connections to China. The sanctions were becoming far less effective.

I think that's what you're not realizing. The US has given up on soft power because it is losing to China in that. It has moved on to hard power because it can not able to compete with Chinese soft power.

  • Protest are not for changing something with a protest. They are about building, organizing, and recruiting.

Not every protest is a "no kings" event that everyone feels good about and goes home and does nothing for the next 6 months. But even those are opportunities for recruiting and radicalizing people.

It takes time. The decades where nothing happens are what build us to the weeks where decades happen.

If protest are not your thing find another way to get involved.

  • We're just going to have to agree to disagree. I'm not going to bang my head against the wall trying to explain it to you. But I'll give it one more shot.

The fact that you see PPP as only relevant in a bubble inside the country is just idiotic. China PRODUCES things. Literally most of its aid and initiatives are in the form of resources and infrastructure projects. There is no USD involved. That's literally the entire Belt and Road project.

I'm sorry. But it seems like you're trying to project what you know about US trade and neoliberal economic policies onto China. You clearly know enough about US trade and how it uses the dollar for dominance on world markets. But China doesn't have to play that game anymore. That's literally the shift in global economic trade that has happened. The world is not being held hostage by US dollar dominance anymore. They have an alternative in China.

And PPP is a much better means of showing why this is. It's BECAUSE China actually makes shit. It's not just a finance and consumption economy. It makes stuff more affordable for its population AND it's able to use this same massive industrial power to work on industrial projects with other countries.

You are explaining a world that existed 20-30 years ago.

  • I appreciate the response. But "golfing" was likely just an autocorrect from trying to type "coding" when they made the meme.

Or maybe you're making another joke. If so, /woosh to me.

  • Do you think America competes at all in its ability to produce heavy machinery, concrete, and steel when compared to China?

We are far beyond the GDP vs. GDP(PPP) that started this. But, you brought it up. The US's main problem is it's lack of industrial production. It's an almost entirely finance based economy. Which is something that causes its GDP to be heavily inflated. The AI companies trading the same billions in a circle with no actual material production happening in the country right now. The US economy is built on financial speculation. China's is built on industrial production. Something GDP doesn't account for at all.

That was my entire frustration with using GDP as a metric in the first place. I said "at least use GDP(PPP)" because at least it takes into account the populations purchasing power of goods.

On the world stage, as an economic power, the US is losing to China. It's why it's using its military to invade South American countries that trade with China. It has no real way to compete. So it's falling back on it's methods of imperialism.

  • You might want to let the people that studied econ beyond a lemonade stand just talk next time. You don't need to type out every thought in your head.

You just gave the ultimate dumb guy response. Congratulations.

We're discussing Calculus and you just responded with "yeah, well 2 + 2 = 4. I don't know why those letters are in your math with that weird squiggly line at the start.".

You clearly have no idea what we're even discussing in this thread.

  • If we're not comparing the ability of a citizen to buy things with the fruit of their labor. What are we comparing?

I get what you're saying. But it comes down to a fundamental problem with liberal (using the classical sense of the word) economist and what they are "flexing" about.

The "economy" to the average voter is how much the groceries and rent are.

Not even mentioning the "eating shit" problem of GDP. GDP PPP is far more meaningful to quality of life. Though still flawed. The normal person isn't trying to understand the power of a currency on the world stage. They are using it to buy eggs.

  • China is the world's largest economy by every meaningful metric. No serious economist uses GDP as a metric for actual economic production. Can we please at least use GDP (PPP)?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(PPP)

It's still not a good metric but at least it actually allows a means to compare countries to one another more accurately.

The US economy is 10 major tech corporations doing essentially this with AI right now.

  • I said this when Trump first started and all the Europeans and Canadians were leaning into local nationalism and their neoliberal leaders doing the same. But I'll say it again.

Capitalist Interest of the west are aligned. The fate of the working class of Europe will be the same fate as those in America. You are not somehow separated from the results of Imperialism that you have enjoyed. And you will not be able to avoid the decline of its benefits as the ruling class tightens it's grip. Your leaders can "condemn" the legality. It's even less effective than our supposed leftist politicians in America doing the same. Your leaders words are as useless as the words of Bernie Sanders.

  • NATO is literally just another name for the American military. Maybe you're joking. But, if you're not, you really don't understand NATO.

It's like saying "Germany will be removed from the EU". It's literally the heart of it. If America leaves NATO it basically stops existing in any form of what it ever was.

Sure. You could still call it NATO. But it would be like calling McDonalds by the same name if you removed all the non vegan entries from the menu.

The US will never be expelled from NATO unless the US decides it's time to dissolve NATO for its own political interest.

  • It's a reflection of the lack of working class power in the imperial core. In the past, the capitalist class felt it had to manufacture consent with a sense of democratic rule (it was as false then as it is now).

The lack of any class consciousness has allowed our ruling class to stop using resources to maintain the charade. Why not spend less effort and just declare that we are an Imperialist nation that seeks to exploit the world's poor? Hell, it might even make stupid right wing reactionaries feel "strong", as they struggle to pay rent, as long as they get a hard-on for our military.

This invasion is not different from the past Imperialist history of America. The only difference is how plainly they are admitting to it.
