  • SpaceX began launching Starlink satellites in 2019. As of May 2025, the constellation consists of over 7,600 mass-produced small satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO)[10] that communicate with designated ground transceivers. Starlink comprises 65% of all active satellites.[11] Nearly 12,000 satellites are planned, with a possible later extension to 34,400.

... and you're worried about 300 from Europe?

  • My thoughts are "Why do they need one?". It's not like UEFI stops you doing anything.

UBIOS's unique features over UEFI include increased support for chiplets and other heterogeneous computing use-cases, such as multi-CPU motherboards with mismatching CPUs, something UEFI struggles with or does not support. It will also better support non-x86 CPU architectures such as ARM, RISC-V, and LoongArch, the first major Chinese operating system.

I would say this is about increasing the level of control of the platform, not about technological issues.

Edit: For example, here's the RISC-V UEFI specification.

  • I find that response rather disappointing. It seems like your goals are not aligned with the people who are attending. You're on a recruitment drive and they are trying to effect political change.

  • Energy usage is skyrocketing in China and India. Coal is skyrocketing to meet it, but is being partially offset by renewable installations. So, we recently saw that more energy was generated from renewables than fossil fuels, so the mix leans that way. This story is saying the absolute level of coal is at it's highest, which is also true.

Coal: high. Renewables: slightly higher. Total energy use :mind boggling.

How hard is it ? Nobody needs more reasons not to be a doctor. They are valuable to society. That justifies good pay. Nothing wrong with that. Lawyers are more debatable, but certainly they perform a civil function and often serve a community.

Go after the companies that are robbing you blind.

  • There's certainly bigger fish to fry.

  • No, I doubt they do, but given the glacial pace that lawmakers move at it might be just in time.

  • It shouldn't be illegal. It's a responsible disposal of an organic liquid.

  • For every Hetzner there's 10-20 companies that are now part of Google / Meta / Intel / Apple. My point is, they're not part of a Hetzner like company. They get consumed and spit out of American companies and Europe is forever in startup mode.

  • No. I wasn't really arguing against anything. Just that "this guy's worth $30B. Let's take it and get $30B" is simplistic thinking.

  • You're still making the best of a bad situation though. You'd rather the original resources were available. Seizing "wealth" won't get you the full book value.

  • Sadly, the move to open-source is not driven though a choice to embrace the open concepts. It's the only choice if you want to move away from American software and services because Europe has continually sold its startups off to American giants. Europe's giants are relics from he post-ww2 era or before, and generally they don't innovate.

I think this new course is a good thing, but there's going to be a lot of pain as expectations change.
