  • It's mostly because all the streaming services won't give you higher res and HDR unless you're using one of the boxes. You don't need the slop tho. Nvidia shield imo has been solid for over a decade now. I'm over fire TV and those cheap shitty no name boxes are even worse. I have no idea why people fuck with those. Even a fire TV is better than that lol.

  • Yeah most of the time I don't give a fuck about 4k. It's HDR I'm after.

  • I don't know why more people don't do this. Don't connect the TV to the Internet. Ever. Do updates using a flash drive if you must and connect whatever flavor streaming box you like. The TVs and their dumb os get slow and shitty anyway so why fuck around with it? Lol.

  • Yeah I had those wemo switches in my old house and their servers were unreliable as fuck all the time (app was straight garbage). I'm not even surprised they finally pulled the plug. They're on my shit list forever now.

It costs more but I went hue and couldn't be happier. Spent too many years complaining about how it was expensive but God damn if they don't just work and Phillips I trust far more to not just shut shit down (and even if they did, I can still make them work since it's not proprietary).

  • I've done smart switches and so many suck shit. Also different colors for the bulbs are so nice. And hue has options for wall switches too (slap a little switch on the wall that has different scene options and such). They're just better honestly lol. Instant response time too. I was cheap for so long avoiding these and I just kick myself now.

  • Our Democrat governor signed it. Why she signed this I still don't really understand. She's been using her veto power quite a bit and yet this one gets to go through. Ridiculous.

  • What a time to live in. Linux being used to give people less choice. Incredible. I'm not buying fire devices anymore. Fuck Amazon. Only reason I ever bought them to begin with was that they were cheap Android devices. I can just buy shit from Onn now I guess.

  • Prime Day and other sales push those prices down pretty regularly to the point I think most people are like "ah fuck it why not" and just grab one

  • Kindles are cheap. That's pretty much it. I don't think it's a great mystery. Amazon subsidizes their hardware to get you into their ecosystem even more.

  • I remember when Snapchat was extremely popular for messaging. One of the worst apps I've ever used. Just an absolutely atrocious UI.

  • Same lol. Macrohard Doors here we come!

  • Yessir I've basically run into all of that. It's fucking infuriating. It really is like talking to a toddler at times. There seems to be a limit to the complexity of what it can process before it just starts messing everything up. Like once you hit its limit, it will not process the entire thing no matter how many times you fix it together like your example. You fix one problem and then it just forgets a different piece. FFFFFFFFFF.

  • Dude forgetting stuff has to be one the most frustrating parts of the entire process . Like forgetting a column in a database or just an entire piece of a function you just pasted in... Or trying to change things you never asked it to touch. So freaking annoying. I had standing instructions in it's memory to not leave out pieces or modify things I didn't ask for and will put that stuff in the prompt and it just does not care lol.

I've used it a lot for coding because I'm not a real programmer (more a code hacker) and need to get things done for a website, but I know just enough to know it's really stupid sometimes lol.

  • I'm split on this. On the one hand if they didn't have self checkout, they'd need more checkout people. On the other hand, before self checkout they didn't really give a fuck if you had to wait in line (especially Walmart holy shit that was one of the biggest reasons I never went there, the fucking checkout line).

  • Business Insider so basically yes. I've never seen a "news outlet" blow business people as hard as them so I guess the name fits.

  • Most systems these days do rewrites (like Apache mod_rewrite) to keep the query parameters out of the URL. Even for pagination. It's not necessarily on by default though because they don't know what environment you're in so you need to do things to enable it (like copy a .htaccess file and enable it in settings).

  • Big difference here is that Windows doesn't REQUIRE developers to use the windows store or still pay them money if they use other methods of payment. Anyone can download an installer and install software without the Windows store and Microsoft doesn't make developers pay them still to do that.

Now if they could get away with it they absolutely would like on Xbox. That's why Valve put so much effort into Linux.

  • All the interviews Stewart has done were so good and that one infuriated me the most. He really did try and push on him a little but the guy repeatedly avoided saying anything that wasn't on message and totally useless. Just really pathetic.

I liked pretty much all the guests he has had on but I genuinely came away hating Jeffries. Dude either doesn't get it or just doesn't care. Just absolutely infuriating.

  • If it's any consolation I don't think any of them I've run into REQUIRE Internet to use them as a dumb screen. I wouldn't buy one that did either. Lol.
