Pronouns: He/Him (by convenience)

I’m in the process of regaining some social abilties online. The fediverse and no connection to my civil ID did wonders in this regard, despite my disposition to anxious ruminations and my weak social stamina. Anyway, happy to join a safe space to be open about my queerness.

From what I gathered, I can describe my identity and orientations as: bisexual, polyamorous, trigender, demiboy (I’m a.m.a.b byt he way.), non-binary, isogender, demicisgender. (Both cisgender and transgender seem to hardly fit my identity.) I’m also closeted.

  • Thank you, but the pessimist I am cannot reassure you on this point.

Currently France and most of its population are very far from that fierce image, and that’s not new.

Our so-called “leaders” follow objectives and methods similar to their U.S. counterparts, with an apparent lag / delay. Our ten years president is a neo liberal with also some traditionalist catholic views on social norms. The asymetry in apparent power is such that those politicians don’t have too much to fear from the general population. (For now at least.) They just have to get enough people to vote for them once in a while, and manipulative communcation campaign do the job real fine.

Demonstrations and strikes don’t often work: they are generally ignored, circumvented, or smeared, criminalized, and sometimes violently repressed. (With accusations of terrorism). We even have a very violent “police” unit seemingly fully dedicated to beat up demonstrators. (The “BRAV-M”.) More powers, more tools, more weaponery and legal protections are given to the police (or similar) forces.

The fatigue and discouragement from our worsening living conditions depowered the fights for general interest causes. (against domination and exploitation systems, for example)

But !.. the same worsening living conditions are becoming bad enough that people become more afraid of being passive than of the consequences of opposing the “elites” and their goons. I sure hope the balance will tip in favor of those who fight for a better life before the faschist-style authoritarism is fully installed.

2027’s elections will be quite a battleground, but honestly we’re in need of more than some “providential” elected president with a good program. The framework of our current institutions system is rotten, focused on presidential power, and must be discarded to a framework based on equality of rights, equality of opportunities, solidarity, freedom, respect, compassion.

    TL;DR:

France is currently not as much a land of rights and successful social fights as some believe or claim it is. It is also not a land of freedom anymore. (See freedom of press rankings, for example.) It’s rapidly (d)evolving into a fully fledged capitalist owned, highly repressive, police state. There are reasons for despair, but also some reasons for hope. All is not lost, but the fight will be arduous.

  • For those into (not porny) dating sims, Date Everything very probably has both. (I have only discovered a very small part of the characters for now, so I have not verified it.) Warning though: every NPC in this game is an anthropomorphised domestic thing (objects, appliances, dust, etc).

Stardew Valley’s expansion mod Ridgeside Village instroduces a ftm character. I will not say his name for spoiler reasons, but he’s quite a touching character IMHO. (Well, although unoffical, he is a befriendable and romanceable Stardew Valley character after all.)

  • Well, considering that “transgender” and “non-binary” are both umbrella terms describy a great variety of experiences, it would be hard. NB even lies ousidet of the classical concepts of gender (at least in the cultures inheriting from the biggest colonial empires). So it’s hard to undertand all who are under these umbrellas.

I am not able to properly communicate how I experience my own non binarity. I just, for as long I can remember thinking about my gender, have undertood myself as mostly a man but with fractions of me that were not a man. (three gender in toal) But how to make it understandable to someone that doesn’t share the same experience ? I genuinely don’t know. Even more complicated, even though I have a dominant gender (man), it is mostly linked to my body. I think my main gender would very easily switch if my body magically switched to be mainly female or mainly asexual. (Beware the polysemy, i’m not talking about the asexual orientation.) I guess I do not feel that connected to the notion of gender itself.

For the daily struggle, well… Let’s just say I’m quite lucky I pass well as a white cishet monoromantic man, and don’t suffer from gender dysphoria to my knowledge. And although I currently hae no IRL community to discuss with freely about this kind of experience, that’s mainly because of social difficulties unrelated to my queerness.

All that, though, is the individual experience of a single enby. It cannot and must not be generalized in any way.

Would I be able to understand the experience of another enby ? Maybe, maybe not, it will depend on said experience. Same thing means I don’t fully understand transgender experiences. I understand what transgender people manage to communicate, and I learn from that. But since I don’t share their experiences, some aspects will always elude me. Still the same thing with the cisgender experience. I easily understand what can be externally observed, because the society I live in is built around cisgender people with traditionnal roman catholic christian gender roles.

The good thing is : fully understanding someone is not a necessary condition to fully accept and fully respect them. (But it is a contributing factor.)

  • We know that Trump is only the chaotic mouthpiece for a much larger and much more problematic power structure in the USA.

A power structure that has been quietly and increasingly fucking the rest of us for decades. Trump simply ripped the mask off and got loud about it.

Not just in the USA. All around the world, mainly among the self proclaimed “(representative) democraties”, which are many countries. (The openly authoritarian regimes are already authoritarian, but can still progress toward more intolerance.)

And yes Trump, while himself being the symptom of these systems current state, has acted as a catalyst for the march toward hateful authorianism.

  • Exactly why I created a new internet identity when I joined the fediverse with the intent to be open about myself.

My usual web identities are too tied to my civil identity, and the socio-political context in France is not so good, while still better than in the USA.

Moreover, I don’t come from a very tolerant social background. I had to be really independant to begin deconstructing my previously learned biases. (A never ending effort.)
