  • One of the coolest things in my opinion about radio is the ability to skip off the upper atmosphere and bounce a signal back down halfway across the globe. You can also bounce a signal off the moon.

  • Used to work at ATT. They used a goddamn dictionary tool for their abbreviations. And some were used for five things or more. You had to read them in context to differentiate. A damn nightmare.

  • To be fair, I read little nowadays, but audiobooks where I can listen to seties while doing laundry, or trash, or DIY projects... I blasted through Cosmere 2 years ago, plus the Dresden series, Noobtown, DCC, Demon Mart, He Who Fights with Monsters last year, and this year (and past two months) the Wandering Inn series (Book 12 now). I enjoy books far more than film and tv, mostly due to speed at which I can devour the content (1.75x usually).

  • I never could really get ahold of anyone to talk to, most Elmers in my area died. So I just use the license as an emergency line. Talked a few times on my HT, but most HAMs in my area use their cell phones nowadays.

  • The four repeaters in my area are run by one club. They do the Field Day exercise every year and from what I remember they run them around 150w per repeater. A small jenny could run those fuckers on 15gal a day fairly easily. In a huge emergency, though, you can relay morse on just 5w through 5 or less relaying techs to most of the world without repeaters at all. (1 if you're lucky, but I'm being fair to real life interference).

  • You legally need a license for HAM in the US, but there's nothing really preventing anyone from configuring a radio to licensed frequencies. As for HAMs reporting you, if it's an emergency the FCC rarely fines anyone if it's for medical or safety concerns, were any amateurs to even report you. The whole reason for the Tech license for example is just to know laws and rules for operation. It's damn easy, too. License exam was $25 a few years back, 8 year term. All the questions and answers are avilable online, they just pull (35? I think) from the pool of 400. Most is pretty basic rules of common sense and civility, a few laws. Most tech questions are just converting frequencies and basic math. They don't require morse anymore (Thank god, or I'd never pass). And if you pass the Tech, you can go right back in for free to try the next exam level. I never use mine, but I do have an HT I keep charged in case of emergencies.

  • Thanks. This one is better. I had to clear all data to make it work, but so far no errors.

  • Eh, the printers should be swapped for laserjet to save money and ears. I don't even know where one could buy paper for dot matrix printers either.

  • For the first time ever, his assets only warranted stealing 20 0% interest million dollar loans instead of hundreds. He's becoming a Poor!

  • I like it. I really want to love it. I'd like an option to show all icons on press. The dealbreaker is the issue with no response. S20fe, disabled power optimization for the app, and it still wakes or loads from open apps to home as a frozen screen. With no indicator on the screen, I just tap, wait, tap, wait, click wait for app on popup, then it works, only to tell me it's not responding despite finally working. Once this bug is gone I might use it over Nova.

  • It's more fun on a rewatch. Going in knowing you catch a lot of things you missed the first time.

  • Wait. It's been a long time since I've used Win 95, but it didn't have virtual memory as an option?

  • Yeah secure boot really fucked with me for like an hour. Then bitlocker stalled me for days. Windows marks it's territory with asparagus piss and vinegar. Disable fastboot and secure boot, remove bitlocker.

  • Lemme guess, Secure Boot prevented installation?

  • Most countries have special units with guns. The average police officer does not carry. The general populace is only allowed hunting guns and only near hunting grounds or at home. This should be a standard here. It even fits the whole "Castle doctrine" so many swear by.

  • They think that Dems are Leftists. US Dems are very much on the right. Go far enough left, and you'll find the Marxists and Anarchists with more guns than a MAGAcultist's safe. Only they know how to shoot every one of them, and are smart enough to be quiet about it.

  • Xemu does decent. I am torn on whether changing loaders has any real benefit on the emulator though. I used third party loaders back in the day on the original machine... (I miss my baby. Softmodded via MechAssault, led changes, 250Gb HDD installed. Sadly, somehow shorted it out whilst copying from a 250GB HDD to a larger one that I was going to use for more storage. Magic smoke, BIOS corrupted)

  • Eh, lots of people in my area use 250s offroad, but only to go up hollers and gather cut wood or drop salt licks and such. Not for entertainment or sport, just work. I try to keep my F150 free from dents and dings, and I do use it like a van for the family, but I got it because I wanted to haul stuff, not for play. (Also, one can fit quite a few 8ft 2x4s or similar in a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee if one isn't afraid to rest boards on the dashboard in the middle... hence the truck, got paranoid I'd be pulled over)

  • Dualies at least have widened fender wells and jist in back. They are nice if you actually haul 2tons+ (F150s say they can haul 2tons, but I'd never risk that much, 250s were created for a reason)
