  • Interesting, any special weeb insights why they do it like this? Does it make it easier to draw maybe? Just stands out?

  • Most reasonable explanation for this crap I heard:

    1. facebook is just a website that makes money through tracking and ads
    2. people need to use a device to access facebook, so they can get tracked and see ads
    3. apple and google own all your devices and started to block tracking and ads (except their own)
    4. Zuck saw a risky chance by investing in VR. The vision was to get everyone on their VR platform so they can continue to track you and show you ads
  • So? Still doesn't make sense to me that wikipedia can sell anything meaningful here, but I'm also not a lawyer. Do they promise not to sue them or sell them some guarantee that contributors also can't sue them? Is it just some symbolic PR washing?

  • I do both of these as well as smaller but more frequent tests, group work, project work over several sessions etc... The only things I stopped doing are reports to write at home, paper summaries etc. Doesn't make sense anymore.

  • How exactly does that work? Wikipedia does not "own" the content on the website, it's all CC-BY licensed.

  • If these "signs of AI writing" are merely linguistic, good for them. This is as accurate as a lie detector (i.e., not accurate) and nobody should use this for any real world decision-making.

The real signs of AI writing are not as easy to fix as just instructing an LLM to "read" an article to avoid them.

As a teacher, all of my grading is now based on in person performances, no tech allowed. Good luck faking that with an LLM. I do not mind if students use an LLM to better prepare for class and exams. But my impression so far is that any other medium (e.g., books, youtube explanation videos) leads to better results.

  • Are Bandcamp still the good guys? I thought they were bought by the big capital and now went down the drain. Artists' opinions especially welcome

  • Everybody out here complaining that their apartment is not big enough to fit this in but... do you even have 11 friends?

  • Sure, let's shame everyone for grasping at a somewhat political neutral occasion to spark a little joy in their lives!

  • Weird they apparently did not do this already? This is the most obvious business model with those slop generators

Dude/dudesse, what the hell is this and why have I never heard of it? Sounds really useful on the manpage, I hope I remember it next time I need it. Thanks! 😊

  • Kind of unfortunate, that even here on lemmy most comments immediately flip to "but as a man I also feel scared". True, but it's not what this study is about. Maybe in 2026 we can try to just read something like this and take it as a prompt that, maybe, some things are not about us. Maybe we should do something about catcalling. We can talk about violence against men and loneliness at a different occasion.

Living in Japan, the country famous for being completely safe for everyone, this gap recently became clearer to me. As it turns out, when people talk about safety in Japan, they primarily mean that you won't be beaten up and nobody steals your wallet. But there are so many weird creeps around here. I'm really quite happy I don't live here as a woman.
