  • You raise a valid point. The social fabric in our society is ripped in such a way that old people often feel "left over" whereas in other societies they remain an integral part and can still have meaningful interactions, where they feel able to provide to society and be respected for it.

The combination of ever getting older thanks to modern medicine, but at the same time being ever irrelevant, seems more of a curse than a blessing.

  • Looking forward to them racing Germany to the last place.

  • Especially as the Republicans have a very questionable relation to Russia now.

Going from Russia-dependance to US-dependance could become the same thing geopolitically.

  • Don't forget industrial uses though. The heat needed will still be supplied by gas as opposed to electricity most of the time, as it is cheaper. We need proper emission import taxes and supply chain surveillance to protect the EU industries as they decarbonize.

So there will remain a slower declining base use, opposed to households.

  • You have a host that people grew accustomed to. Over 16 years. So many people who started watching the show in their teens spent half their lifes with Stewart. And you have a new host who yet has to find his groove. Of course viewership goes down for a while. But that is not an adequate reflection of the overall quality of that host.

Imagine you start a new work and even after 5 years and a promotion to senior, people say "well in his first months he wasn't like the old colleague we had for 15 years before that. That is not a probable metric.

Regarding the international experiences i am referring to his stand up programs. Of course something like "son of Particia" where he talks about his South African mom doesn't resonate as much with John Miller from Nebraska, like it does with people who lived across continents.

  • If Trevor Noah was so terrible and the ratings were so bad like you claim, why did CC prolong his contract by 5 years in 2017?

    https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/14/arts/television/trevor-noah-comedy-central-contract.html

Mr. Noah’s incarnation of “The Daily Show” drew an average nightly audience of just over 1 million viewers for the week ending Sept. 1, according to Nielsen, well short of the 2 million or more who tuned in for Mr. Stewart’s program by the end of his 16-year tenure.

But Comedy Central cited other positive trends in its decision to extend Mr. Noah’s contract, including growth among overall viewers, and viewers aged 18 to 49, over the program’s 2016-17 season. The network said that “The Daily Show” was on pace this quarter to become the most-watched daily late-night talk program among millennial viewers (aged 18 to 34).

Kent Alterman, the president of Comedy Central, said in a phone interview, “We have never had any lack of confidence in Trevor. Quite the opposite, we’ve never wavered in our belief in him, and now what we’re seeing is that the rest of the world has taken notice and expressed the same confidence.”

Also could it be, that you are a white middle class North American? Because Trevors stand up programs are hilarious. But he is talking about his international experiences, what it means to move abroad and deal with a complex family situation. I understand if that isn't relateable for many people.

  • Trevor Noah was amazing.

  • Which is why there can be no peace with the Netanyahu government or any any political party from the center left to the fascists that currently govern Israel. They are all terrorists that prevent peace and further their expansion with terror.

  • I mean at this rate most Americans would probably accept the money to just be given directly to the companies instead for Israel to receive bombs, as a intermediate way.

Although i don't see why rich people couldn't invest in companies that build schools, bridges and roads and get government money through that.

  • While Serbia is definetly under russian influence. Why do you think that people wouldn't demonstrate against loosing "their" currency?

Just claiming that any protests by Serbs has to be the result of russian instigation seems as silly as Russia claiming the Maidan protests in Ukraine were instigated by the West.

You need to provide some specific information, before making such a claim

  • I think i have an idea who managed to escape the cave and who didn't.

  • You mention mountains of evidence, yet you do not provide a single link.

But since i know UN-watch. It is a pro Israeli propaganda organization and not an independent NGO. They were even organisationally intertwined with the world jewish council and other pro Israeli lobbies. They almost exclusively focus on discrediting UNRWA. They cannot be considered a neutral source.

But your claim that UNRWA would be a terrorist organization then gets entirely absurd. Terror means to employ violence to achieve political goals. so the term "terrorist organization" defines an organization that has political goals and primarily employs violence to achieve them. Neither has UNRWA poitical goals, nor is there any credibility to the claim, the organization would engage in violence. It cannot always be excluded, that some UNRWA employees may have done so. But neither did they do it in the capacity of the organization, nor did they make up a relevant number of the UNRWA employees.

Of course if there is credible evidence that UNRWA employees have engaged in illegal activities that needs to be investigated and if the claim should hold true, there needs to be consequences.

But destroying UNRWA like you demand, only serves to commit genocide to the Palestinians in Gaza by destroying the only organization that currently can provide a bare and insufficent minimum of humanitarian aid to millions of starving people. It is in direct violation of the ICJ ruling that demanded Israel to take actions to provide adequate humanitarian aid, and it shows with what can only be described in the "banality of evil" how Israel is set to continue the destruction of the Palestinian people.

  • If the global reserve currency changing has tremendous risks of collapse to the US.

Most commodities are traded in US-dollars. This gives the US economy tremendous stability, as the stability get intertwined with the global economy as well as allowing the US to influence global ressource prices through increasing or decreasing the currency amount.

If these aspects stop working when a different currency replaces the US-dollar, it will expose the US economies weakenesses and force it to stand on its own much more.

We also saw the US to fiercly enforce the dollar as global oil currency. When Gaddafi suggested to the Arab league to establish their own currency and trade oil exclusively in that, he fell out of favor with the US again. Iran wanting to trade oil in other currencies is a strong sting to the US.

  • There is many joint European defence projects. They often suffer from gaming which country gets to do what. FCAS delays

  • I think he well knows what he does. The protection provided by the US gave it immense soft power in the diplomacy with these countries, but also immense hard power, as it means military bases all over Europe.

Damaging US soft power in the world has been consistent throughout Trumps presidency. The trade war with Europe, the damage to the WHO, the repeated threats at weakening NATO. Now the calls to abandon Ukraine.

It is evidently not in the interest of the US, but it certainly helps Putin.

  • How do you conclude

but it CLEARLY and obviously does now which is why they’ve rightfully suspended funding. It needs to be dismantled

Where is the evidence that proves UNRWA to do so?UNRWA staff sacked without evidenceallegations remain murkyAnd of course it needs to be considered, that Israel brought forth these allegations, just after the ICJ has ruled Israel to need to abide by preliminary measures, to reduced the risk of a plausible genocide against the Palestinians. It is well probable that this is a smoke grenade to deflect from the ruling made by the ICJ, as it gives reason not only to doubt the moral, but also the legal position of Israel.

  • UNRWA is an UN institution. You think the US, UK or France would have allowed UNRWA to be designed intentionally to support terrorism?

  • They also cut the payment to UNRWA and continue to keep it cut based on the allegations Israel brought forth a day after the ICJ ruled measures Israel needs to abide by, in aprticular improving the access of humanitarian aid.

The news here is a measly 8 million € that are far from being enough to alleviate the immediate catastrophe. For reference Germany has so far commited about a 130 million to humanitarian aid in Gaza since Oct. 7, but more than 300 million in weapons to Israel.

  • It is distinctly different though. it is especially dangerous to rely on subsidies as a means for attracting businesses. There was an example of Nokia who received about 100 Million to build a cellphone factory in the 2000s. After the subsidies ran out ten years later, they moved the plant to Romania. This is the risk of subsidised business. You pay the difference for the poor conditions, don't receive more in return and then the business goes away anyways.
