Historian Martin Gilbert writes that it was in the 19th century that the position of Jews worsened in Muslim countries.[38] According to Mark Cohen in The Oxford Handbook of Jewish Studies, most scholars conclude that Arab anti-Semitism in the modern world arose in the nineteenth century, against the backdrop of conflicting Jewish and Arab nationalism, and was imported into the Arab world primarily by nationalistically minded Christian Arabs (and only subsequently was it "Islamized")

1865, when the equality of all subjects of the Ottoman Empire was proclaimed, Ahmed Cevdet Pasha, a high-ranking official observed, "whereas in former times, in the Ottoman State, the communities were ranked, with the Muslims first, then the Greeks, then the Armenians, then the Jews, now all of them were put on the same level. Some Greeks objected to this, saying: 'The government has put us together with the Jews. We were content with the supremacy of Islam.'"

That seems to me, as a result of the general nationalism that emerged and specifically the long lasting antisemitic tradition of the Christians to take influence with the decline of the Ottoman empire.

Meanwhile there are extensive links between zionism and anti-semitism, where secular zionists often worked together with anti-semitists to push for the zionist project as a mean to remove jews from western countries.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zionist_antisemitism

  • You claimed that the land was stolen from the jewish people who were there first, which is the main historical argument, as to why israel has a right to exist, despite the basis for that being the mass displacement and killing of the Palestinians during the Nakba and the subsequent occupation.

But the land was never "stolen" from the jewish people. Most of the Palestinians simply becamse christians and muslims over time. The whole "the state has a right to exist", which is very different from "the people have a right to exist", is a western construct, to justify pushing the jews, who survived the holocaust to Israel and to channel the western countries "redemption" from commiting, being complicit in, or being inactive about the holocaust.

In international law there is no concept of a states "right to exist". People have a right to exist and they have the right to sovereignity, for which a state is a way to express it. But it is not bound to this state of Israel in this constitution and with this government and with this genocide against the Palestinians.

This right to sovereignity is equally maintained in a two state solution, or a one state solution, where Israelis and Palestinians have equal political participation and equal rights as citizens. That was even one of the main ideas of the early zionists. But the later radicalization of zionism after Israel was founded, led them to believe, they could take it all. And that is why they reduced Gaza to rubbles. That is why they tried to displace the people into Egypt. That is why they talk about deporting or murdering all the Palestinians in the Israeli government. And that is why they need to be criticized and they need to be stopped.

This is also what progressive jews demand. And these progressive jews are equally affected by being excluded from public discourse in Germany, being excluded from cultural events and being denied formerly sheduled awards, and being taken into police custody for demonstrating and denied their right to demonstrations. So in alledgedly fighting against antisemitism, Germany commits antisemitism on a huge scale.

  • The "fold" has its equal in the german "fach" which means x*n of the n-fold. The "times" is just a synonymous term that developed too.

I think you might get confused here, because it is usually used in the context of something having increased tenfold, which us often used to describe the result of an exponential growth. Nobody says "it increased twofold". Outside of scientific topics, language doesnt really refer to exponential growth. As we saw with Covid, it is a concept difficult to grasp for people in general and it is not part of the day to day language.

  • No they didn't. Even the christian crusaders, who where happy to commit pogroms against jews in Europe as a sort of "motivational entertainment" had to note the peaceful coexistence of jews, christians and muslims under islamic rule.

The Palestinians of today are the descendants of the biblical abrahamic tribes. White european, often secular, jews, who now control Israel are killing the people whose lineage is closer to David and Abraham, than theirs could ever be.

  • Given that we are talking about roman times, metal was expensive, and working metal in such a way even more so.

It could also be that similiar tools in cheaper were made out of wood and simply rottet away since then.

  • A stable authority is open to constructive criticism and not endangered by it. Instead it is strengthened by taking in and adapting to legitimate criticism.

And this is a story as old as humanity. Do the stories praise the kings that instilled fear and denied any criticism? Or do they praise the wise kings that listened to their people and never got blinded by themselves?

  • Mobilization is the first step. You will not get people to start beating up fascists, who for the past 20 years haven't been to a single demonstration. Also having millions on the street for a cause puts pressure behind politics to take the more activist protests serious and respond to their demands. Also with the right wing media and propaganda machine it is crucial to have so many people out, that are considered otherwise apolitical or non radical, because the narrative of the right was that they represent the silent majority and that everyone against them is a leftist radical. Now they are struggling with absurd photoshops that the masses were fake.

  • Meanwhile the German government reconfirmed on Friday, that they stand by Israel, when journalists asks about consequences for these statements that are in opposition to the supposed demand from the German government.

I am starting to worry, that even if the ICJ rules Israel to commit genocide, Germany will ride along. Unlike Israel we are a signatory to the ICC though, so the ministers of today could be tried in Den-Hague tomorrow.

  • I wonder if she has some agreements with Goldman Sachs to curbstomp the German and European economy in the right moment, when they have shorted Germand and European stocks.

I cannot explain this economic madness otherwise.

  • A lot of these topics are not tackled by the media, or there is only one uproar and then it is over. Consistently reporting on issues, holding politicians accountable to promises and reporting again if they fail to deliver arent done for these kind of issues.

But unfortunately it is also met with apathy in large parts of the population.

  • How would it influence neighbouring countries?

Politics across borders are often very different. Also there is clear rules. Enforcing those rules is a sign of stability and encourages other governments to abide by the rules and consider how far they can go in rhetoric and action. Not enforcing those rules on the contrary encourages more governments to act opportunistically against the organization as a whole. This threatens the entire organization.

Or to take a real life example. Do you know anyone that went speeding extra much and leaving the country because a friend of them got a speeding ticket?

  • With all the excitement about the current protests we must not forget, that the current and former governments and all parties currently in the parliament were and are responsible for creating the growth of the AfD and fascist ideology in Germany.

We currently see many politicians applauding the protests. But applauding is not getting us anywhere. We need to demand action.

    • The first step needs to be formaly initiating the banning case at the constitutional court. But we must not stop there. We see many cases of police, military, intelligence and state prosecutors being infiltrated by fascists. (see below)
    • We need urgent action to investigate and remove such structures and people from the executive, as otherwise they can just grab power by force.
    • We need the prohibition of associations and structures of the AfD, the fascist parts of the CDU and other actors from the fascist movement, that do not fall under the protection of political parties.
    • We need investigations into the CDU as a suspect case of extremism
    • We need to roll back on the social and financial politics that continued to impoverish the poor and middle class, while granting more and more tax money to the rich and affluent
    • Chancellor Scholz needs to speak a word of power and get the FDP in line, who kept and keep blocking progressive politics, violate agreements between government parties last minute to stop the government from acting and enfore austerity against the normal people while granting record tax breaks and subsidies to the rich.
    • The new deportation law that was passed just last thursday, including many violations of fundamental rights like protection of housing, privacy, right to due process and freedom, needs to be revoked immediately. It is a wrong step and fatal signal towards the deportation plans of the fascists.
    • All democratic parties must reinforce their commitment angainst fascists. In particular they need to make internal resolutions that prohibit the cooperation and coordination with the AfD or other actors from the fascist spectrum. People who violate these resolutions must be kicked out of the parties immediately.
    • All files from the NSU case must be published. The secrecy order that initialed was set to 120 years and then set to 30 years has the clear intent to protect the interior intelligence and people who aided the terrorist group from exposure and prosecution.

For non Germans, a few things of what is going on in Germanies executive:

There has been a series of Nazi terror attacks in Berlin, where prosecutors and investigators were found to have "private" meetings with the suspects. Even an attempted murder at a politician remains unresolved despite the suspects being well known to everyone. There is a group of police officers from Frankfurt who used their access to police information to threaten lawyers, comedians, activits and politician who spoke out against nazi structures and terror. The police officers are still suspended with pay, despite their being a whatsapp group uncovered in which they shared fascists memes, talked about rapeing the corpses of female crime victims, congratulated each other on Hitlers birthday and other heinous shit. They named themselves NSU 2.0 after a Nazi Terror organization that muredered more than a dozen people in Germany between 2000 and 2011 and was likely protected by the interior intelligence. In the City of Dessau there is a police office, where in 2006 a black man was murdered by pouring gasoline on him and setting him on fire in his cell. To this day the case remained unpunished and the officers present in the timeframe just received a fine of about 10.000€. the head of that police office in 2016 helped to hide the body of an asian student that was brutally raped and murdered by his stepson, who is also the son of another police officer from that office. As a "punishment" he was sent to teach at a police school, and even that was overruled later.Special police and military units have repeated stolen ammunition and weapons and gave them to nezi terrorists, who prepared for a violent insurrection, including having death lists of politicians and civil society actors they would murder. After much media attention and great propaganda around it, a woman was convicted for alledgely being head of a leftist terror group that had beaten up fascists in saxony. The conviction was weak, and is mainly based on the single testimony of a former member of that group. Now a member of the AfD, who regularly had access to sensitive information from the case, probably through the prosecutors office, boasted that thanks to him that testimony came to be. He boasted himself with having had the witness beaten up by nazi hooligans in Poland, where the witness had moved. This court case needs to be reopened and the prosecutor needs to be investigated for probably coordinating with a violent criminal to threaten the witness into a potentially fabricated testimony.

  • They are currently and consistently strong in the polls for the federal elections, where they come in second at 25% and in many state elections that are going to happen this year they are by far the strongest in the polls.

Also together with the EU parliament elections there will be muncipal elections in many states, where also the AfD could get a "landslide" and be strong enough to dominate budget and planning decisions. They are already cooperationg with the former conservative, now right populist and in somer areas far right CDU, whose members also participated in the deportation plan meeting, on a local level. They made decisions like cutting funding to organizations that help victims of racist violence, cutting funding for theatres and cultural groups that were welcoming to refugees and limiting the ressources for sheltering refugees.

  • Yesterday morning i installed Mint xfce on an old laptop.

I wanted to install synaptics drivers for the touchpad because i use the trackball as mouse but need the touchpad for clicking. Something that isnt configureable in the default driver.

When i copied an example config file and added my line, i rebooted the computer.

The GUI broke because in the example config file, there were "..." To indicate writing further options, but xorg couldnt interpret or ignore it, so i had to figure out how to edit textfiles in the command line.

No fun times, and definetely a risk for new users.

  • They first stated around 1400 around. three weeks in they corrected it to 1139 as the official deathtoll.

With people missing, but presumed dead, uncertainty about people taken hostage, people in critical conditions in hospitals and quick reports of rough numbers that is plausible without malicious intent.

On the flipside in Gaza the 24000 could be a bit higher or lower too. But there is also another 7000-10000 that are most likely buried dead under the rubble of destroyed houses.

  • I wouldnt give too much consideration to that. +-200 is not that much in such a situation of uncertainty and chaos.

  • If you speak German there is this website, of an activist artist group that wants to initiate the party to be banned too.

    https://afd-verbot.de/beweise

There is over 2000 statements by AfD members, high ranking officials and also from official functions, like state or federal party executive committees.

  • The AfD also made statements of "well temperated cruelty" against the people they deem undesireable. In combination with these and many more statements made by high ranking AfD members there is no plausible deniability left.

  • I mostly know the situation in Germany, the Nordic countries, the Netherlands and some eastern European countries. When i recently visited Denmark i was positively shocked that people in their 40s and 50s overwhelmingly were fluent in English too. In the eastern European countries it is a strong generational divide. Young people tend to be very good english speakers while there are very few among the older generations. I guess that is the result of learning russian as second language in school and english only as third language and probably many people didn't learn english in school at all. Judging from my parents there isn't much of the russian left that they learned in school either.

  • We will not get people who are past their 40s to learn a new language en-masse. Meanwhile many of the young generations are quite proficient with English.

In the business context in particular it is important that language is precise, so contracts can be negotiated. This often enough is an issue even if all parties are of the same native language. There exists a lot of legal interpretation for each language as to how specific terms are to be understood, as well as standard formulations and references for specific industries.

All of this established practice would have to be re-established with a constructed language. This process takes decades, if not centuries. In the current situation it seems much easier to teach proper English in school and encourage usage of English, so people are proficient in it.
