HW/FW security researcher & Demoscene elder.

I started having arguments online back on Fidonet and Usenet. I'm too tired to care now.

  • No.

... and if you believe differently, please cite the relevant sections from IPCC AR6 to support the statement.

Exaggerating climate science is also climate science denialism.

  • I don't get why I should be outraged by this - and I drive a VW EV.

Just like Tesla did the same when I (unfortunately) had a car from them a few years back.

Or USRobotics that sold me a Sportster 14.4 Vbis that was exactly the same hardware as the much more expensive 16.8 DS back in the early 90s.

  • Many outside of Ukraine don't realize that this war didn't start in 2022 but in 2014.

  • Yeah I really don't get the numbers coming out of there. Maybe a tax bracket thing - there are a lot betters EVs than Tesla under the Swedish lease-bracket (the VW ID.7 for example, have one myself) but the Teslas are ~15000 EUR cheaper.

  • We Swedes excel at protesting silently, where no one has to know we do it. It's the same thing with Tesla sales and US tourism travel.

  • Yeah I think it's important to point out that for a European the US has two parties to the right on the economic scale.

  • Using Bluesky as the non-algorithmic example is problematic - they still need to show high user engagement numbers for their VC owners. Mastodon do not have the same problems since on the contrary a Mastodon instance owner has an economic incentive in making sure spambots and troll factory accounts get closed down asap.

  • All social media is overrun by troll factories with the purpose of sowing discord. I just assume all such accounts are "bots" (although often human-run).

(Yes, some try to sign up also to Mastodon et.al. - but are usually spotted)

  • Zelenskyy is not the one that "disagrees" with giving up land. He just points to their constitution since it's simply not something he's allowed to agree to do.

Not that Trump understands that a constitution can limit the powers of a president ...

  • Exactly. It's enough to learn that we have to give up access to all social media accounts at entry and that if they find something critical of Trump (which likely exists on 99% of all European social media timelines) that's enough to suddenly be sent to confinement for a week or ... a month.

Yeah, no. There are other places to visit.

/Vegas-loving European who has been there pleeenty of times

  • Always my wife when she's also having. Otherwise we share when it's for the kids (special needs means we can't all eat at the same time or the same things).

  • Read the article. Can't imagine anyone who has ever worked with software development not agreeing with Linus here.

  • Yeah that simply isn't true. I use Secure Boot on all my Linux installs - both in the deb and rpm ecosystem system.

  • Really? Which would those be? So far I haven't come upon one.

  • Yes. That's how you get undetectable rootkits.

  • Secureboot doesn't "fuck with Linux". It does protect you from malware trying to install unsigned kernel modules.

Apparently that driver is unsigned, which is not the normal case nowadays.

  • ... I get that this is a REALLY important topic to you - but the article also explains how the PS5 is much more expensive (inflation adjusted) at this point in time compared to the PS4. That's very much part of "doing well".

Also, that the PS4 numbers are included is no different from the PS3 before - and your claim was that Sony was losing customers at that.

    Take the L.

  • Nintendo sells lots of games on Switch. The games industry in general don't.
