HW/FW security researcher & Demoscene elder.

I started having arguments online back on Fidonet and Usenet. I'm too tired to care now.

  • Thanks, my wife is a psychologist specialized in ADHD and autism.

  • Sometimes kids "grow out" of their ADHD in puberty, and even if not, if they feel they can handle things when they get older they can have the diagnosis removed again.

But at least here (Sweden) going through school with ADHD without medication is very difficult.

  • Diagnose and medicate - since getting through school absolutely requires it and failing school might bring with it other bad things for a kid when it comes to which people they hang out with etc.

  • How the fuck did the current generations go wrong in thinking lack of competence is attractive in a partner.

  • Yeah, with some humans agreeing to be part of the policing force etc.

  • FWIW the founder of Kagi is adamant that subscribers must accept part of the subscruption money being sent to Russia (Yandex, fully govt-controlled) and has refused all attempts at excluding it. When questions started appearing he even tried claiming Yandex isn't even russian.

  • I just rewatched the whole series a few weeks ago. It mostly holds up still today.

(actually parts of it might feel extremely relevant if you're in the US ...)

  • There's plenty of absolutely useless stuff done in schools just because that's how we used to do it.

  • The Lancet is one of the most respected journals of them all - and this is the largest and most scientifically valid study done on mobile phone use in schools.

    Try again?

  • My sister moved to her own little studio when she was 16 back in the 90's, to not have to travel 20 miles by bus back and forth from school from where our parents lived every day.

Swedish Gen X though, so our views on parental pampering of young adults do seem to differ a lot from today's norms.

  • I don't think the OS is the problem - it's that some of the critical service/apps people rely on (government ID, banking) only exist for the closed systems. Third party OS's try to "solve" it through various container approaches running the official apps, but since they see that as a security problem it's not something you can fully trust to be working at all times.

  • You're talking about specific distros as if they're some specific variant of Linux. That's not how it works. Linux is Linux, and if you want to sign your Ubuntu Touch image please go ahead.

  • I'm sorry but you really have no idea what you're talking about. Several distros ship with SELinux and Secure Boot by default.

  • Yes, that's how a normal bootchain works in every system ever - like the IoT device running Linux I'm right now working with.

  • I think this will sort itself out quicker if you show me what "mobile linux" is.

  • Unfortunately still living under the Swedish occupation but close enough! ;)

  • No I don't carry a knife :P

  • Close! I understand what they're saying but it's hard not to laugh at the same time.
