  • “The money-laundering rules of the world’s foremost centre of financial corruption were certainly applied fairly by one of the world’s most corrupt banks, and the economic attack againt anti-state media is just a happy accident for both of them” is a really hard take to understand.

Why do you trust a) the UK financial regulators b) Lloyds c) any current or recent government not to be selective in enforcing laws if it helps silence opposition?

  • Anything is possible when you allocate the impact of commodities to the place where they were produced instead of the place where they were used 🤩

(This is the most common approach allocation, that doesn’t make it correct)

(Also this chart is gross not per capita so the fact that the US shows more emissions, even without the offshoring scam, until around 2000, is just w i l d)

  • If you’re confident enough in your own political analysis that you’re sure you can get involved without becoming a lib yourself, and if you have a solid idea of how to avoid it sucking up all your organizing capacity, then I say go for it.

Also if I’m guessing right that you’re talking about Green Party of England and Wales then it might be worth looking into who the specific people are locally, they (much more so than Scottish Green Party) seem to have a bunch of people who liked the ecofascist origins of the party and aren’t so interested in the recent turn to the left.

  • Sure, but imo if that is the starting demand then it will likely be compromised down to nothing. Maybe if the starting point is “full nationalization with no compensation to shareholders / owners” then the capitalists could be forced to hand over a part.

But in the US I don’t see how this could ever happen with publicly-traded companies short of a revolution - there’s too much mercenary solidarity from the working class and the petitite bourgeoisie to the capitalists, with anyone with a pension, any cash savings, or some entire sectors bribed out of their own class interest with crumbs from the stock market.

  • the part of the “conspiracy theory” about CIA funding is completely true: signal proudly say they get funding from the OTF, which at the time signal started was a subsidiary of Radio Free Asia, which started out as an open CIA project (before being relaunched as clearly still a CIA project but without the official acknowledgement).

I’m 50:50 on whether signal is a literal honeypot, but even if not it seems pretty likely that the US government wouldn’t have funded an app that could be used by people breaking its laws - let alone people actively organizing against it (foreign spies, domestic revolutionaries and insurrectionists) unless they were getting something pretty big in return.
