  • +1 to this. I built a few deb packages at a previous company. It was a solid packaging suite but good lord was it a pain to work through

  • I understand that you're trying to be helpful, but you're jewplaining my culture to me. Please stop.

I'm fully aware that zionism does not equal judaism .

I'm also aware of some of the more problematic parts of the bill, but none of it directly ties Judaism to Zionism. The closest we get is this section

“Denying the Jewish people their right to self-determination, e.g. by claiming that the existence of the State of Israel is a racist endeavor”

but even that at the moment is a stretch. The right to self-determination and sovereignty are rights respected by most every country and the UN. What I see as problematic would be potential future law that would define the boundaries of the State of Israel to include Palestine.

Mind helping me see your perspective on what makes this an L?

Edit: I just realized that my attempt to shorthand does not equal got rekt.

    @binthinkin

Hopefully you can forgive the typo and we can still discuss

  • There's a comment thread below yours that I'd love for you to read. This isn't a "hey fuck off" but an actual ask since one of the comments is very similar to my mindset of the bill and I believe we can have a pretty good convo once you read the mindset a bit.

I agree that it has potential for misuse, but read the thread and let's discuss (also it's bedtime here so expect a delay in response from me please)

  • Wasn't the last CEO from EA as well or am I misremembering?

  • What a rare W

The group adds that "rhetorical and physical manifestations" of antisemitism include such things as calling for the killing or harming of Jews or holding Jews collectively responsible for actions taken by Israel.

This is actually really good and a point I've tried to make to lukewarm success. The Israelis are not always in favor of the actions of their government much like we Americans aren't. Making this distinction is important so that we remember who we're actually angry at and who we demand action from regarding the clear genocide of the Palestinians.

Context: I'm an American Jew who is furious with Bibi's actions and the IDF.

  • Isn't the cost of living in Germany also lower than us statie boys?

  • What is sublinks?

Update: there was a link in the article, thanks though!

  • Won't lie I'm getting sold on this via this discussion

  • I mean, security is an unintended outcome of it. Any kind of isolation of packages provides a level of security.

  • All of these points are completely correct and paint an accurate picture of the inherent issues with both technologies.

My intent with my earlier comment was to show how flatpaks and appimages were different from traditional package managers at a high level so I could ask what made nixpkgs different from something I felt and still kinda feel is a more accurate comparison which are traditional package managers like apt etc.

The big selling point to me now is that nixpkgs seem to work similarly to virtualenvs from Python which is cool.

  • So it sounds like nixpkgs is more akin to virtualenvs in Python rather than a traditional package manager. Is that an accurate statement?

If so, I'd recommend that be your selling point because that's some powerful security.

  • You're not exactly comparing apples to apples here.

Flatpak and appimages tend to be used in any distro because they can just be downloaded in a one off manner and installed then you're running the application (for the most part). They offer a manager of sorts but you don't need it to use the packages.

For nixpkgs, whike I'm sure I can get a package from the sounds of the sizes the package covers only the application or the library, meaning I still need the dependencies.

So what exactly would make me the user trade my built in tools (apt/pacman/dnf) for nix? Keep in mind no matter how great you feel it is, you need to provide reasoning that motivates me to install and learn this new tool instead of the old ones I have.

  • We don't need gulags, we already have Texas.

  • If you need 4k you're going to need a shit ton of storage. If you go for the good quality profile 4ks you're looking at 50GB easily per file.

Sonarr and Radarr can fetch downloads, yes. You'll need to configure your indexers and then you'll need to set up your download clients. I use a torrent server and sabnzbd.

You'll need a graphics card that can handle transcoding 4k I'm not sure which is best. Ram and CPU won't be the biggest concerns for you.

  • Thank you, I really hope this is just some propaganda because if it's not good lord is that fucked.

Please don't take this as a "Hamas and Palestinians are totally at fault blah blah blah" my comment history is full of this whole situation is fucked comments. Just this particular incident, big oof.

  • I feel like that lends some credibility to Sab's point.

They said unified Jews of the world and you've said politics in Israel not even necessarily Jews but of Israel.

Way too often do these two things get confused as one and the same. Israel doesn't help at all with this either so it's frustrating to have someone implying they represent me out there doing things I certainly don't agree with.

Honestly it would be like if Trump tried to imply he was doing what white people around the world wanted and I'm sure we all know that can't be 100% honest.

  • The thing for me is I wanted to become a dual citizen because hey Israel is where my people are from why wouldn't I want to but I was much younger and as I grew up I felt felt drive to do so. At first it was because I'm a pacifist and refused to join any military. Now I'm of age I can dodge that but I see what the country is doing and how could I in good conscience want to be a part of that?

So I'll be a Jew and I'll speak out against tyranny as I have and thus I speak out against the actions of the Israeli military and government. I'm not a fan of how Hamas acted before the start of this genocide but no matter how much I didn't like that I can't say Israel's response is in any way justifiable. This is a slaughter of innocents and that is not Judaism as I know it. This is not what God would want us to do.

  • I'm upset because I'm Jewish and now I have to use a disclaimer "but fuck bibi"
