World News@lemmy.world•German men need military permit for extended stays abroad [3+ months]English
114·2 days agoYeah I was just on a german thread and people kept talking about this as if it was actually penalized. People really need to read more beyond the headline so thank you for putting this there

History Memes@piefed.social•"The Continental Congress expects your abdication by morning."English
0·2 days agoMaybe. I think Virginia gave also part of it and I wouldn’t split the city in half. The people should maybe get to vote on it. Although I do not see the issue in making them a state, as there are states with a much smaller population

0·2 days agoBut DC has become its own city, not only government center. People live there, and they shouldn’t have to move to be represented properly
Those guys (like us) are only existent for the blink of a moment. No matter how important they seem today, in death all are equal and the planet and people will still be around long after they’re gone

93·2 days agoHonestly this is a big nothingburger. Without further details there’s nothing much we can really conclude other than TDF and Collabora being in a legal dispute. Nothing conclusive really

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do you feel about a 25 year old dating a 46 year old?
2·2 days agoIt might be fine for the moment but if the relationship stays long term it will be hard when one partner starts to like age and degrade a lot quicker than the other. In the end one might be ill and on the way to death while the other one has quite a bit of time ahead of them. I think that can strain a relationship in the long run

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•FEMA Official Says He Teleported to Waffle House. Experts Are Dubious.English
1·2 days agoThat should become an SCP honestly. Just some one that randomly teleports you to waffle house or some other food related business but no one believes theres anything wrong

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How would an anarchist society work?
1·2 days agoDo you know how common it is in the US for people to just like… leave it? In germany theres the advantage that people have gotten accustomed to putting it back through the coin lock mechanism even if oftentimes the cart they use is now not locked. The problem is if strong factions arise where it will be hard for the rest of the public to sanction someone breaking rules. If it becomes more convenient to ignore then to enforce such a decentralized enforcement won’t be effective

4·3 days agoThank you that was quite the insightful read. I have alread read another big blog post about Proton in general. I’ve been a Proton subscriber for a while now and also been looking into private meet/call software and sites. I personally quite like Element (On Matrix protocol) but I’ve also been looking into Brave Talk and following Proton Meet. While I think my threat model doesn’t warrant it and the Proton suite is very convenient while still a lot better that Google I think I will keep on using Proton services, just more in a conscious manner

I personally like obsidian because it supports extensions and linking note but its way too convoluted if you’re not looking into these features. Its technically proprietary (with an american company behind it) but the extension ecosystem is FOSS. Logseq is a good FOSS alternative tho.
