I wouldn’t initiate or invite, but if I just happen to be in the same room with myself it would be fine. It would be mostly quiet and we do our own thing, or the occasional silly philosophical or metaphorical discussions but probably nothing real or deep. Or maybe it’ll be a free therapy session, having 2 brains figure out my emotions

thisisdee@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What was the strangest reason you got in trouble in school?English14·1 个月前Went to a pretty strict school with uniform/dresscode in Asia. One of the rules is we’re not allowed to dye our hair. One of my high school teachers was convinced that all Asians have black hair, so my hair that’s very slightly brown under sunlight cannot be natural. It’s so subtly brown that most people would say I have black hair. It’s just that he saw me under the sun with my friends who had blacker hair than me that he assumed I died my hair.
At first he gave me a written warning. I thought it was stupid so I ignored it. The next time I had his class, he pulled me aside and told me he was gonna send me home cos I still hadn’t dyed my hair back to black. I’d never really been in trouble at school so I didn’t even know what I was supposed to do. Since he was teaching a class, he sent me to the teachers lounge and find someone there and tell them I’m supposed to be sent home. Luckily the teacher I found there was someone who liked me and when I told her about the issue she just laughed and said that’s stupid. She let me hang out with her until the end of the period so I didn’t have to deal with the other teacher until she got a chance to talk to him.
thisisdee@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How long do I need to exercise for before I start seeing a difference?English3·1 个月前I believe it’s true too that other people might notice first. I think it might be because we look at the mirror often, especially when working out, and don’t notice the small changes our body has gone through during the process. But when you see someone you haven’t seen in weeks, the difference is much more noticeable
thisisdee@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the dumbest weed related thing that's happened to you or someone you know did?English2·1 个月前In college, guy went to the bathroom, found a lighter in his pocket and started lighting toilet paper on fire while on the toilet. No idea how long he was in there but it was bad enough that the fire sprinklers went off and flooded the basement and first floor. The guy got kicked out of the dorm, but don’t know what else happened or how much it cost.

Insulin costs $7 in Australia vs $98 in the US. I’m guessing US drug companies want the cost in Australia to go up so US doesn’t look as bad in comparison

thisisdee@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Programmers: Stop Calling Yourselves EngineersEnglish2·7 个月前I live in Australia, which I guess is not a civilized country.
In any case, what does that even mean for software engineers to be certified? Do we get certifications for specific programming language? Or a stack? Or is it specific to what industry your tech is based on? Cos I don’t think it makes sense for someone working on a social media platform to have the same certification as someone who’s working on health tech for example. Why does it need to be a protected title? Does the general public even care or is it just other certified engineers who care?
thisisdee@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Programmers: Stop Calling Yourselves EngineersEnglish3·7 个月前Yeah I was gonna ask, whether certification/government regulations are required for all engineering disciplines. I graduated with a CS degree and work as a software engineer now. I have family members who studied different engineering disciplines (industrial, civil, mechanical, etc), and only 1 of them ever needed certification (civil engineer). What makes one more “engineering” than others?
thisisdee@lemmy.worldto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•I live in the green part (obesity map)English151·7 个月前I’ve only visited Colorado once, during my cross country road trip maybe 10 years ago (I’ve since left the US) and loved it there. I did notice how much healthier/thinner everyone was. I was in Boulder for 2-3 days and did a couple day hikes. Everyone was very friendly. I would love to live there. As someone who’s on the higher side of normal weight, I’ve never felt so unfit.
I have a 15 Pro as well and mine is still ok. Although I rarely use the port because I use wireless charging most of the time.
I did have an issue with CarPlay disconnecting sometimes, even though the cable itself doesn’t pop out. But it also happens on my husband’s Pixel, and we’ve tried other cables, so we think it’s just the car’s connection rather than the cable/phone.

It wasn’t easy since most of the people I knew were mostly temporary residents/non-citizens too, and my occupation isn’t on the list so coworkers are out the running.
Got drunk and hooked up with a married customer during an event. He said he didn’t know the customer was married (no wedding ring). It was my first job out of college and I learned from the sales team that it’s widely known at these events that people “forget” their wedding rings for this exact reason. I guess he wasn’t fired because it was consensual, but weird because customer and her husband were running a family business so technically both of them were our customers.
