  • "Finding the application is half the innovation"

  • RCS only increased the meta-data the cellular providers and messaging apps is selling on you.

They don't care about the content in your message, so e2ee is useless in this case.

They're selling who you message, when, and where you are when you do it. They collect data on which cellular tower transmitted your message. And now with RCS they also know when you read the message.

Which means RCS is just as useless in terms of privacy. They only enriched the data. So it's probably worse.

  • I don't know why people have more faith in cellular providers. They have been selling all of your data before Meta was a thing.

  • US is still stuck on SMS, so much that they even made an upgrade to it with RCS.

It felt like an upgrade to the DVD disk when you have the Internet.

  • Unfortunately, most people don't care. That's why most get their news from Facebook or TikTok, and only read headlines.

  • And you can be sure whatever causes all major illness today, they know, but it's too profitable to do anything about it.

The things the sugar industry knows for example, but everyone is turning a blind eye.

  • Lesson #1 on the Internet.

Put something on it, expect it to be there forever. You never own whatever you put out there. Both text, pictures nor video.

Maybe companies should realise this too.

  • Who makes money when everyone just uses a search engine for answers?

Is this post sponsored by Google or what?

  • Fortunately, they are forced to do it in EU.

  • Free market and competition. We don't like that now, huh?

  • So this probably won’t impact energy usage at all.

The banking/payment industry today runs extremely power hungry systems to process payments, so my guess would be the new system runs much more efficiently.

    Source for banking CO2 footprint

  • I think realistically you know that very few people share the same thinking. What EU is doing is for everyone to benefit from a better system without anyone ever realising they changed.

I share your view btw and also very familiar with and user of crypto. But honestly, crypto is not for everyone and never will be. People want the safety net that is banks and governments.

  • ITT: People who are scared of things they don't understand, which in this case is AI.

In this case, the "AI" program is nothing more than pattern recognition software setting a timestamp where it believes there's something to be looked at. Then an officer can take a look.

It saves so much time, and it filters out anything irrelevant. But be careful because it's labelled "AI". Scarry.

EDIT: Comments to this comment confirms that you don't understand AI, because if you did, you'd know that this system who scans video is not a LLM (large language model). It's not even the same system in its core.

  • Just shows Apple's true colour, and how much the EU has forced their hand.

This change will come to the iPad too one day though.

  • Must say, I'm a fan of "spirit of the law".

Then there's no "bUt tHiS wOrD cOuLd mEaN tHiS iF tRaNsLatEd 50 tImEs tHroUgH gOoGle TrAnSlaTe iN 1874"

  • So it must be like this:

They see a way to interpret what the EU means in the worst way possible, BUT it's only so they can go to court.

Why would they? Because they would be able to keep their monopoly until the case is done. Basically, buying time.

They're probably confident that they can get away with this cheap (or by paying less than what they'll gain).

Extremely shitty done by Apple, but a common strategy among shitty companies.

  • EU takes 10% of the profits if rules like GDPR and other Digital acts are breached.

But only at the first offence. The second time they take 20%.

  • What's the logo at the bottom right from the EU logo?

  • Yeah, the guy taking money from Google and giving them to the poor, cleaning the oceans and helping the environment. We MUST lose respect for him, just because he posted on a social media platform we prefer not to use.

That's the logic behind this. Honestly?
