  • World would be a 'better place' if jagoffs like Nigel Farage just keeled over, says me.

  • Peertube is the one Fediverse offering that I just can’t get into. It doesn’t have the content I tend to watch, and what videos I do see on there all fall into 2 categories: some dude rambling about something in French, or what looks like a hostage video filmed on a potato in some guy’s depressing basement.

  • I just wrote a bash script copies the relevant files or directories I want to back up from either ~ or ~/.config and places them in a local git directory which I then push to a private repo on Codeberg. Super janky and manual but I update dotfiles so seldom that it works for what I need.

  • What you mean? HAFSBEVCZ is a totally established, reputable brand.

  • lol, lmao even

  • Christ, Hakeem Jeffries is useless. "What's the point of bringing articles of impeachment against Hegseth if Republicans won't advance them?" It's about the messaging. It's about putting representatives on record. It's about doing something, fucking ANYTHING, about these illegal strikes.

  • At work I use Edge because my company is balls deep in the Microsoft ecosystem. I tried to use Firefox out of principle but it unfortunately just didn't play nice with a lot of Sharepoint stuff. And you know what? As far as Chromium-derived browsers it's not the worst and at least (for now) still supports uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger, and YouTube Sponsorblock. It took me a while to disable all of the Copilot/shopping/ads bullshit and pare down the new tab page to just the search bar, but once that was done it's actually not half bad.

Would I use it at home? Oh hell no, I'm ride or die with Firefox.

  • The thing that drives me nuts about the lab leak theory is that it absolutely should be investigated as a possible avenue for COVID's origin, but not because of some nefarious conspiracy theory. It should be investigated to determine whether or not there was a protocol breach, or perhaps an oversight in lab procedures, that could point to the need for greater safety in infectious disease labs. Remember, Wuhan, like all infectious disease labs, follows the same protocols as most other similar labs, including those in the United States. If there are lapses in safety and/or oversight, everyone should know and take the appropriate steps to mitigate that.

  • I saw some small talk about it, and it really just boiled down to domain verification is great for more tech savvy folks, but trying to get larger accounts (think politicians, celebrities, etc) is a lot harder. Having a visual check, using tools within the app or site, is a lot easier.

And personally I like the idea of verification checks as long as it remains a simple means to do just that: verify the owner of the account. Morons like Musk and his ilk always thought it was a clout thing, and for a small minority that was probably the case, but by and large before he ruined it, it was great.

  • If you have one, a local butcher might be a better solution.

  • For basic form filling, the Firefox PDF editor is fine. But sounds like OP’s use case is more advanced than that.

  • Thanks for sharing this, it actually looks like a fantastic alternative to Adobe Acrobat DC.

  • Wow I can't seem to figure out why Democrats keep losing elections

  • Except he's already been prosecuted and found guilty. This is the sentencing. Now the question is will New York state sentence and imprison him before he takes office.

  • Gosh, if only we had some sort of deal that resulted in a solid framework that would have prevented Iran from further nuclear weapons development. Maybe something like a Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action?

  • I got my Framework 13 in February 2022 and I love it. I'll end up getting the AMD mainboard when it becomes more widely available, then take my old mainboard and RAM, put them in an enclosure, and make that my new NAS. Then my current NAS, which is just a Raspberry Pi, I'll turn that into a PiHole.
