  • Do you have any experience with it? I am curious about it and wonder how is the usability in its current state. I have not seen any independent review or feedback about it yet.

  • What puzzled me was that I had no option to input a TOTP. The website would only send me a notification through the Wise app to allow the login.

I have just discovered that the waiting screen on the website had a small, clickable text 'Did not receive a notification?' that leads to other options, including TOTP. That's so much better!

Thank you, I would never have discovered this if you had not said that this was possible.

  • It might be possible with the Modular Android XMPP Service. I have never used it, so cannot help much. Nevertheless, it seems to have modules to notify of received SMS over XMPP. It may even be possible to send instructions to write a SMS.

  • Is UserLAnd still maintained? Assuming I found the right forge, the last activity is 4 years old. While I agree that a piece of software can simply be finished, I worry about compatibility in the moving ecosystem of Android.

  • The adjective 'federated' is often used for these protocols. There are federated protocols other than email: XMPP, Matrix, ActivityPub, etc.

  • Thanks for the useful feedback.

Wise requires me to use the app as 2FA in order to log into their web interface. How do you log in without the app?

  • I appreciate the cheat sheet. I think the names of the character natures are misplaced.

  • Thanks, that ia vert encouraging! I look forward to tuwunel then 🙂

  • From what I read, using anything but Synapse requires to compromise on features/compatibility. I know this is not the dev's fault, it's from the way the Matrix spec evolve. Do you know of any resource regarding the current features/compatibility of tuwunel/conduwuit? I am particularly curious about:

    • bridges
    • element-call
    • threads
    • session verification (e.g. emoji comparison over federation)
  • If you are not looking to selfhost, how about a Matrix provider?

For example, etke.cc has offers from 15 USD/month. There are plenty of options, see etke.cc/order

I am not affiliated with them, I just happen to have heard of them because they are well-known and have an excellent reputation. There are others. See e.g. matrix.org/ecosystem/hosting

  • It can share screen.

  • Is there an example of such script somewhere? I am curious.

  • Where can this variant of coreutils be found? This is the first time I have heard of it.

  • It's in beta, but it's already quite usable. You can try it without account on a public instance e.g. at call.element.io

  • You perfectly answered my question, thanks! You're fortunate to have a public IP at home. Many self-hosters need a VPS just for the public IP 👌 I had thought this was your case.

  • Nice explanation =). I am not OP but I am curious about one point: you seem to have the reverse proxy on your homeserver, not on the VPS.

Is wireguard enough then to tunnel HTTPS traffic to your reverse proxy? Or do you need a more sophiscated tunnel (e.g. ngrok, boringproxy).

P.S. I actually assumed that your VPN entry point is a VPS with a public, static IP. Therefore I understood that your were talking about two servers: the home server with the reverse proxy and a VPS as wireguard entry point. Please correct if this is wrong.
