  • Western European here, I'm just happy Americans living here are finally getting off their high horse and realize maybe the USA isn't the best at everything.

  • What about security? How easy is it to crack?

  • The TV is also bad, but smartphones are literally slot machines in the child's pocket that keep giving them dopamine hits. It's many times worse for the brain.

There are parental controls etc. But the nature of the device is addictive with its notifications and the likes.

  • More and more governments issue warning about the effects of screens on baby, toddler, and child brain development. The age the Netherlands puts forward now is 14 to have a smartphone, and no screens or very limited until 3 years of age.

  • Bayonetta dropped one on us where the guy had like 7 overlapping health bars.

  • The parents and their sleep hygiene play a huge role in this. My parents always went to bed around 22h30 and I had my bedtime routine as well. Sleep hygiene was taught to me from a very young age. Turn off screens, brush my teeth, go into bed, read a bit or play with my plush animals. I always slept within minutes.

Structure and consistency is so important to a healthy sleep schedule. Now I can sleep at any time virtually anywhere. It's awesome

  • Sunset is bedtime my dude

  • That is not entirely true: https://www.nederlandwereldwijd.nl/nederlandse-nationaliteit/nederlander-worden-geboorte-erkenning

The point that takes this as topic is: "Op de dag van uw geboorte woonden u en uw vader of moeder in Nederland. En uw opa of oma woonde op de dag dat uw vader of moeder werd geboren ook in Nederland."

    Which translates to

"On the day you were born, you and your father or mother lived in the Netherlands. And your grandfather or grandmother lived on the day your father or mother was born in the Netherlands."

So it's not as simple as you put it, there's an extra step there in the form of a grandparent.

  • I don't understand why this would be a massive problem in the USA. My country (the netherlands) doesn't have birthright citizenship and it hasn't caused any issues. Why would it be different in the USA?

  • Nope, and since our governments are virtually all coalitions it's much more difficult for something like that to happen here. I'm thankful for the style of government my country has, where everyone needs to make concessions. It has its drawbacks, but it does protect the country against this type of power grab.

  • You overestimate the adaptability of the average software stack. I worked at companies where even adding another button to the cart screen was a monumental undertaking

  • Damnn I've never dipped kroket or bamibal, they go on the list!

  • Absolutely delicious, I have no regrets. Little meatballs also go really well with the cheese, also frikadel!

  • I love dipping cherry tomatoes in there as well

  • Unexpected Naked Gun reference

  • Or just buy pots, you'd be surprised how much can grow out of just a few

  • That does sound like a regulation problem in the capitalist hellacape that is the USA more than anything. I live in The Netherlands and evicting someone here is very difficult. A landlord needs to make his case in front of a judge and everything. There's one reason with which they can evict a tenant with a bit more ease and that's to use the property themselves, but they need to prove why they need it all of a sudden. And even then they need to pay the tenant roundabouts €7000 to help with the move.

  • Been there, done that. I also went to the Lenovo Legion Linux discord server. All great people, but their advanced solutions didn't work either. Even people with exactly the same model didn't have this issue. I have no idea what it could be, maybe something hardware related.

  • I said in my previous comment an RTX3060 and an iGPU. I tried with the iGPU, without the iGPU, switching them, hybrid mode. Nvidia drivers, nouveau drivers, it's always the same.

I wrote a post on it some time ago: https://feddit.nl/post/34127250
